That wasn't really the point, I'd obviously rather we'd signed a decent striker ahead of those listed, though on that basis you missed Powell off the list.

Dusan is Jakupovic's replacement, he's an investment going forward, he was never bought for this season. Diomande was a cheap punt which hasn't paid off, Taylor was a complete pointless signing of a **** player.

Personally, I'm happy with Maloney in our squad, he's a tidy player who hasn't had as much game time as I'd have liked. He's been available most of the season, he hasn't played because he wasn't picked, not because he's been injured all season.

Sadly, for reasons that escape me, you started arguing the toss about some really pointless things a while back. Once you've irritated people on here, it often takes a while to get them back on side. I should know. <laugh>

Keep in mind when I'm shown to be wrong I'm happy to admit it.

I did say I didn't mind Maloney, the fact he hasn't played highlights money would have been better spent elsewhere.

As for having 3 keepers at this stage of the season - that is pointless and could quite easily have waited until the summer.

I like what I have seen of Powell, but he's not a striker, he's a midfielder. So on that basis yes, not what was needed. Maybe Powell can be a more mobile version of Huddlestone for next season?

When we're signing players in January due to income from a cup tie, diomande for over 1m is not "cheap".

For a striker at this level, it's cheap.

    It's official...

Newcastle United - Statement From Managing Director Lee Charnley

After the defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday the Club has spent some time considering its position and has today concluded that Steve McClaren's employment with the Club will end with immediate effect.

We acknowledge that reaching this decision has taken a number of days and that this has caused uncertainty for everyone involved, in particular for Steve and the players, for which we apologise. However we felt that this time was necessary to ensure the right decisions were reached with the best interests of the Club at heart.

Lee Charnley said: "I would like to thank Steve personally for his services to Newcastle United. He is a man of integrity and class and he has conducted himself with great dignity during this difficult time.

"Steve worked tirelessly to try and bring success to Newcastle United. He has the utmost respect of all the players, staff and management and he leaves with our very best wishes and sincere thanks.

"We feel that a change is now needed in order to give the Club the best possible chance of securing its Premier League future."A further announcement on a successor to Steve will be made in due course."

Schteve won't be out of work for long, he's part of that managerial **** up list that gets a job no matter how many times they have failed due to having one or two good seasons somewhere in the distant past.

That is a whole new can of worms. At least the Mackems are giving it a go on the pitch.

Not too sure on the players. But regardless of who signed them the issues @ Newcastle are so deep routed an experienced tree surgeon would have trouble rooting all the problems out.

The sad fact is that whilst Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley are in charge it wont change. McClaren we are told is a great coach so maybe that is where he should focus in future. As for what will happen with Rafa...........

Rafa Benitez signs a 3 years contract with Newcastle that has a relegation opt out clause.
