Declan is and always has been a bit like Fabio - short in stature and pacey going forward but somewhat suspect defensively. Because of that, Slade will never pick him over Fabio who has more to offer in other respects. He'd certainly never play both together - that would be far too risky. I don't see a future here for Declan whilst Slade is about. Don't know if there were any issues between him and Slade but Kennedy should have been given game time earlier in the season to get him sharper and properly match fit - when we have seen him he's looked distinctively podgy and unfit. Instead we've had Slade's choice of Ameobi thrust upon us ad infinitum either off the bench or starting. He should never have been brought here on loan and Slade should have had the guts to persevere with Kennedy out wide. He should have backed the decision to sign him on contract from Everton and built the lad up rather than treat him so poorly.
Totally agree Ninian opinion, and although he does have people in front of him, I strongly believe we should give youth a chance now, as the others have had their opportunities and not been consistant enough....hence force our current position
In the main defence has been our strong point so who would get the elbow to give Declan game time? Our problems are further forward and while he can play left midfield he would be more of a stopgap. However, I wouldn't close the door on him and a good run of games at Chesterfield could see him develop into a valuable player for us.
Unless he was given a run of games then we would not know whether he was better than one of the full backs. It is not the case our full backs have been faultless this season. There have been opportunities to play him, even in the FA Cup v Shrewsbury. In that game we saw 10 minutes of Kennedy who looked good until forced to play full back.
Agree regarding the Shrewsbury game which was a disaster from beginning to end. However, Declan has had chances before (particularly in the Prem) and, for me, has not shown he is anymore than average. He warrants another go under the current regime but is unlikely to get it while Malone and Fabio are both available. The loan is ideal for him to get game time and show Slade what he can do.
Sorry Nin. How can you say he needed a run of games? He has layed a lot of games for us. We have seen a lot of Declan on the pitch and we already know that Fabio and Malone are better players overall. Why give somebody more starts and risk losing one or two games when the better players are sitting on the bench? I think this is a case of forgetting the manager sees the player play weekly, sees them on the training pitch practically daily, and knows the player very well. Again, why would you pick a player you were confident was not as a good as the players you have identified as your best players in that position?
Bloody hell, Forest must be desperate (sorry Stevo): - http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/...ardiff-city-striker-federico-macheda-11023404 Do they think Macheda is code for Whittingham?
Tommy O'Sullivan gone on loan to Newport for the rest of the season. Good move for both. Tommy needs to shine to stay with is next season. I hope he does. He has that extra bit of skill and guile to change games.
That'll be interesting to see how he does. You'd expect him to get a run of games. When does his contract expire?
The end of this season I hope. Can't find any detail though. Just looked at his Wiki profile. Apart from his time at Birmingham his goals to game ratio is woeful for a striker.
I know I've done this to death but due to his own injury record he hasn't played a run of full games. Most of those appearances are therefore 10- 20 min sub cameos. You need to be very special to have a decent ratio when you only play 10 mins. I've said it however many times and I stand by IF he can stay fit he'll score goals in this league.
As ever I admire you perseverance Stevo. Perhaps as a regular sicknote he is a poor investment anyway.
He's been a terrible investment. He'll be on proper wages and he's contributed **** all in the grand scheme of things. I'd never try to argue his signing has been a good thing for us in any way. My point is just that the potential is there. As I said first of all, if he gets a run of 10 games and gets some match sharpness that he probably hasn't had for a long old time it'll be interesting. I'd love to see him get a 20 match run for anyone, just to see if I'm as mental as you lot think I am
Another one gone. Oshilaja on loan to Gillingham (where he's been before) until the season end. If we get injuries/suspensions are we not a bit thin at the back with 3 cb's and 3 fb's and Turner still out injured. God knows how many out on loan. I assume we have the ability to recall if needed.
The 'Macheda effect' has started at Forrest. First game and they get a draw at Hull. I'll ignore the fact he was replaced after 58 minutes They did start the game well apparently though
