I hear what you're saying, but resting 1 or 2 and trying to get something from this away leg would have been completely understandable. There's always idiots who complain about the lineup every week. - you've only got to look at the replies to spurs official's match day line up tweet, to see the muppets who moan. I just don't get why we went so weak. We were facing the best opposition we've played all season and we played a group of players that seem to have no shape or unity. There was no strength or organisation centrally and it was just a total mess with no focal point. We should have been able to have played a much stronger team from the outset, and still had enough in the locker to beat Villa on Sunday. We couldn't have asked for a better fixture on Sunday after this lot tonight. Yet we've completely thrown it and made ourselves look like mugs and embarrassed ourselves against a great opponent, who we actually could have given a bloody good game.
Vertonghen, Rose and N'Jie. Alli suspended and with fitness issues, apparently. Dier left out completely. Missing five players, in my opinion. One non-starter.
Playing FIFA 13 as Gillingham, in season 4 and now have a game against Spurs whose striker is Aubameyang ,who I must admit, i knew nothing of until today. Bentley is also in the team.. I turned to this as the real game was a bit downheartening. Hope the players keep morale up though.
Anyone who wants a laugh should check out the penalty in the Liverpool v Man Utd game. Compare that decision to the one with Son in our game!
I just don't get the point of football anymore, you spend 9 months trying to quality for a competition, then once your in it you want to get out of it as soon as you face someone half decent, maybe that's why we never win anything, we have no winners on the pitch and no winners in the stands
do you seriously think we tried last season to qualify for the Europa, we tried to get top 4 and champions league qualification but ended up in the europa
"we've played a similar line up in all Europa games this season and nobody complained" I like to think I would remember a starting XI that had Eriksen + Carroll + Onomah in MF.
I'm not too sure we can win the champions league, do you? We cant even get to the last 8 of the Europa. You are getting confused with being a winner and winning on the balance sheet, because in the end that's all it is. I personally don't give a rat's arse how much money Joe Lewis recives from us being in the champions league, I want us to win somthing
i'll put this one out there..... if Leicester were in the Europa league this season do you think they would be top of the league?
"The question really is CL or EL" Actually the question is (no - HAS BEEN since 2010) : Can a Spurs squad compete in the business end of a UEFA competition without the risk of losing automatic CL qualification via the PL ?? Tonight Pochettino has told me he thinks the answer is (still) no.
So do I. But to become winners we need to have more resources and being in the CL is the only way to get those. If Lewis's objective is to increase the value of the Club then that is fine because then we will win more things. There is no outcome where the club gets more valuable and doesn't have more success
Do we gain anything out of UEFA for coming top of our group and getting to this stage of the competition? In terms of ranking points or some such useful(ish) reward? If not, what a complete bloody waste of time dragging our better players across Europe and playing them in a competition we have just surrendered in. We played EL games before draws against: Swansea (a); Arsenal (a); Chelsea (h); Newcastle (h) and Palace (h) in the FA Cup. That's 9 league points and the FA Cup dropped on a Sunday after we played a completely meaningless fixture on Thursday. In this of all seasons, what a ****ing farce.
"I'm not too sure we can win the champions league, do you? We cant even get to the last 8 of the Europa." Can Spurs even qualify for the CL two seasons in a row (regardless of the method) ?? Since the foray in 2011, the club has hit a UEFA plateau. The business end of this season should be a statement of ambition as well as a sign of upward progression. I believe there is more in the squad to address the PL and EL this season. By his starting XI tonight, Pochettino has decided to differ.
Was our worst performance of the season against the opposition we have played this season...not a good combination. Thought that Carroll was poor today as was Son. Think they should have been subbed at half time and replaced with Dembele and lamela but that is kind of by the by. Think the players and manager can learn a lot from that match and if they do we will become stronger. I really wanted us to win the EL but think we have left ourselves way too much to do next week. Imo there is no reason to be hard on MP over his team selection...he has tried to rotate and freshen things up and unfortunately today it went wrong...but considering the season as a whole it is hard to hold it against him, or the players.
Yes but you are conveniently forgetting we lost to man utd after having 3 months off, we then drew the next 3 games with a full weeks rest. We also went to Belgium on a Thursday and beat Bournemouth away 5-1 on the sunday. The results will show you what you want to see, over the past 5 seasons there has been no drop in our form after a European game and that's the facts
If playing an additional 10 games in a season doesn't contribute to end of season fatigue why don't clubs arrange more friendlies in China, S Korea, USA when they have the time? We've played 10 more games than Leicester in a competition we just gave up in plus 5 away trips in Europe. If that isn't the definition of a waste of effort then I don't know what is?
