Unbreakable, not only the most underrated M. Night Shyamalan film, also the last good film he made.

Would've watched The Warriors had I known it was on, just finished watching The Hateful Eight for the second time.

It might have gone up in my estimation from my first viewing, knowing what was going to happen let me analyse it a bit more.

Might need to do a Tarantino retrospective after my Kurosawa one.

I watched Son Of A Gun last night, a 2015 Australian film about a gold mine robbery, staring Ewan McGregor. There's no explanation for why Australia's most notorious armed robber had a broad Scottish accent, but it was quite a good watch.

Day 65, film 65, going with either "anomalisa" or "ex machina" when I finally get in from work, then I'll have to sit through an hour or so of babba tv with my nearest and dearest, god she watches some ****ing ****, then the iPad is mine.... "anomalisa" it is

Am watching Black Sails at the moment on Amazon, based on the stories of pirates before Australia was even discovered, bizarrely enough quite a few of the actors have Australian accents despite that! Great show though

Day 67, film 67, "labour day", not a party political broadcast but the American holiday, it's got josh brolin and Kate winslet in it. Looks a good film according to the trailer but you can usually take that with a pinch or sometimes a bag of salt....

Just watched the 60's action classic Where Eagles Dare, it's no good for anyone under ''a certain age'', those of that age will have seen it, more than once, and love it!

Been a few days again, need to get this wrapped up really.

    Day 10 of Kurosawa: Sanjuro

Brief synopsis: A crafty samurai helps a young man and his fellow clansmen save his uncle, who has been framed and imprisoned by a corrupt superintendent.

Review: A good sequel to Yojimbo. Kurosawa made it less dramatic and intense by adding more comedy and a bit more in the form of 9 rebellious young men who are led by Sanjuro. The film is all about action but interesting to follow. However, the film offers little depth, does not explore psychology or human nature like Kurosawa's earlier films, and does not much in terms of organic and relatable character development. It is formulaic and offers little mental stimulation, except for the final fight scene between Sanjuro and Muroto is memorable and shocking. The ending is a cliched 'make peace, not war' speech. That being said the film is still the first of it's kind to offer such a character who can bring no holds barred action to the screen. It's an entertaining film and has some very enjoyable comedic moments.

    Rating: 8.5/10

Can't remember if I commented on hateful 8 but I watched it around the same time as the Martian and Revenant and of the 3 it was a letdown .
I watched warriors att the weekend , one of those movies I grew up with , along with assault on precinct 13 , the music on that film still gives me goose bumps

For me The Martian is the weakest (The Revenant the best for me hands down, best film of 2015 IMO), but that is probably down to enjoying the book a lot more. It's still a great film, mind.

I think like Quill I may need to watch Hateful Eight again. I enjoyed it first time but I suspect that being Tarantino there may be more to it than at first it appears. I hope so.
I found Martian entertaining enough but without standing out from many other films.

Revenant was irresistible watching and some of the action filming as good as any. Rather overdependent on it's being viscerally shocking though I though. Might stand another watch as I think first time the compelling visuals may tend to overwhelm the limited script.

Wondering what Rtr thought of Anomalisa?

Far deeper than it at first appeared but I struggled with it being animation. It was a bit like watching someone else's game of Sims. I think it would have made an excellent radio play. And what was the sectional face and it's occasional cracking or even falling off about? I thought perhaps representing the universal personal mask we all wear occasionally slipping. But it seemed just random. Between it and Ex Machina I think Ex Machina a far better film. Perhaps my own favorite of last year along with Trumbo.

I have also watched all of Black Sails. Exactly my sort of escapist action film. A bit variable in quality, and as has been said, accents, but a good swashbuckling yarn. It does unfortunately become increasingly soap operaish as the seasons progress.

Overtaken imo though by Crossbones. The characters are more three dimensional and the dialogue and plot more grown up.

All I could say is I echo all of your sentiments, the mask thing, I thought that underneath it they would all have the same face as almost everyone had the same voice. Can I just say it was not my cup of tea... Or strong coffee when I need waking up....
