Does anyone disagree that we could win the double this season? I know the treble is also on but unrealistic. Would you all be happy if we won the double this year?
Ha! I like the optimism. We will win the league if we win EVERY remaining fixture. Anything else and I think we will come up short(again). Everton after the Barca game is just the type of fixture we traditionally **** up on. We HAVE to win that. Also West Ham and City will be tricky results. FA Cup is far more likley.
Everton have possibly the worst defence in the northern hemisphere so if we don't score 2 or 3 in that game I will be fuming.
Unless we rest a lot of key players and play a makeshift side against Barcelona, there is no way we should be realistically expecting to beat Everton away 3 days after playing a high-intensity, demanding game against the best team in the world. And whilst they may be leaky at the back, they are lethal up front. If Lukaku by any chance misses that game, I think we'd have a great chance of winning, but he makes that team so potent up front and rarely gets injured. I reckon we'll get a draw at best against the Toffees.
Will you play a strong team against Barca or cut your losses do you think? I realise there would be the risk of humiliation with a second team, but important experience for them. Not like any team will get through that tie (at 0-2).
Cut our loses against Barca. With a 0-1 deficit, I definitely would've given Arsenal a chance to overcome it at the Camp Nou. But after stupid ass Flamini shot Arsenal in the foot with that penalty, every Arsenal fan collectively sighed at our inevitable, consecutive, last 16 exit. We just have to accept that the FA Cup is our most realistic silverware this season. The premier league is a another slim but realistic trophy. A domestic double is still likely but the Champions League? Hell no.
I'd ask Barca if we could concede without playing. Or say "look... We're going to play our under 18s...do you want to play yours too to make it vaguely fun and competitive as long as we guarantee you that you will win?"
