Greatest city in the world, majority of world renowned businesses based in London which all need to be served but house prices are criminally high so we can only afford to live on the outskirts and commute into town. That adds up to TfL having us all by the ballsack and can charge what they like for fares. Another fact of life completely out of our control unless we all start doing The Good Life and raise pigs & spuds in our gardens. Not for me, my wife looks nothing like Felicity Kendal. Even Hackney and Brixton are now completely colonised by rich ****ers paying £4.50 for a bowl of ****ing cereal. They're building 'luxury apartment complexes' in Finsbury ****ing Park ffs, that no local could ever hope to afford. Hope all the ****s that buy them get stabbed. I have yet to establish why it is that a city with such a high average salary and ridiculously high property rate is still the numero uno destination for so many of the worlds dregs who don't want to do a decent shift to pay their way. Instead of building luxury apartment blocks for the Russians, Chinese and Arabs that dopey fat albino cnut Boris should be making sure there are affordable rental properties throughout the city. NOT for sale, rental only. That f*cktard Thatcher ruined it by selling off Council houses and that is why we in The Smoke are up a certain creek without a certain form of propulsion.
I think TFL is ok tbh. Major station refurbishments, bus services are immeasurably better than 20 years ago and whilst it's a pain in the butt when they go wrong the tube service is usually excellent. Admittedly, you often have to share the carriage or bus with a collection of complete and utter ****ers but not even Jonno could blame Tfl for that! I don't think many, if any, Londoners would claim it as the best city in the world mind.
I once overheard this conversation on the terrace of The Pheonix pub in Ally Pally; a guy gestured toward the view of the magnificent metropolis and said to his companion "there lies the beating heart of the greatest empire the world has ever seen". At the time, I sort of had to admit he had a point. The old girl did look pretty good for her age, seen in a certain light.
