No, that's like saying Da Vinci's "The Last Supper" is yet another painting of Jesus! Happy Valley is practically flawless in its writing, casting, direction, acting, and photography, and even has a great, brooding soundtrack, as well as a catchy title song by Jake Bugg.

I came to it late myself, my wife was watching Episode 3 of Series 2 and I found myself being drawn into it, to the point where I had to go and binge-watch the whole of Series 1 and the first episodes of Series 2. Like the best TV, it always leaves you breathlessly waiting for the next twist and turn.

My friends' rave about it, but I only saw episode 1 of series 1. The girl being kidnapped and held was too creepy for me....which is weird because I do watch crime series. The cast is terrific, but too late to join in now.

Been suggested that women shouldn't go out alone after dark in Sweden because of attacks by groups of foreigners (and we all know what that weasel word means)....I've a better idea...if they can't behave in even a vaguely human manner, make men observe a curfew. As that won't be done, all countries will have to recruit more policemen and start building the extra prisons that will be needed from now on. I can see vigilante law appearing in Europe soon and then won't be long before innocent people get attacked and killed.

Interesting, because my girlfriend (if I dare call her that - don't let on will you?) did the same, except she watched the first 10 minutes or so of episode 2. She loves crime dramas, but she said this one was too creepy and gritty for her .............

When I lived in Stockholm at the end of the 80s and beginning of the 90s, I was surprised how quietly racist the people were. Now they have a "foreigner" problem, I worry that there will be more people taking the law into their own hands, as you say. I have no issues with anyone moving to any country, but don't impose your own beliefs on the people there, respect theirs and follow their laws. Sadly, there are an active minority who do not and will not do that.

That is the problem. A manageable number of people move here (for example) and fit in and everyone is happy. I happily consider people British if they live here and obey our laws. The problem is the large number of people attempting to enter Europe who have no intention of fitting in and in fact have active ill will to the European way of life. I expected trouble as soon as I saw a large mass of immigrants and realised that they were not families, but young men. If they were truly fleeing their countries, they had abandoned their families....left women and kids to cope alone. Hardly the type you want. Their behaviour on arrival in some countries has shown I was right when I predicted we didn't need to build more homes, but more prisons.

These scum are making life more difficult for real refugees and British people of foreign extraction. Everyone gets lumped together. I grew up in the sixties when Asian immigrants being thrown out of Africa were welcomed here. I was at University with Asian and White Africans who had been driven from their homes. We were certainly tolerant and it is a shame that such tolerance is being used against us now. We need to be compassionate to those that deserve it, but strong against people who are no better than criminals. No time for being namby pamby....we have rules, you comply or out.

It's hard to think of any one individual who did more to revolutionise the art of producing and recording music than Sir George did. An absolute giant.

    RIP George Martin <rose>

Only Brian Wilson springs to my mind. Pet Sounds and Revolver within 3 months of each other, Saints promoted and England winning the world cup, what a summer for an adolescent!

Many, many years ago, I went to the factory that made them. Anyone I eat now pales into comparison to a 'warm' one straight off the production line.

Interesting day, been going back and forth with the the reps for The Rolling Stones who are playing here in Bogota tomorrow. Had to make a 'shepherds pie' for them 4 times as they want it a particular way. Never known it made the way they want it, not even made with lamb but with beef. So close to telling them to go elsewhere. The customer is always right - unless they are wrong

Trouble is Fran when you capture the buggers put them through the courts to get justice. Then at the end of their sentence attempt to return them to their country of origin as undesirable. They claim violation of their human rights. So still manage to avoid deportation. In truth exactly against what the human rights charter was brought in to protect. At least in my opinion.........

Read that it was George that told Mcartney about the idea of having a string quartet in Yesterday !
