Why is the fan base of DC horrid then ? Do they eat babies at half-time for example ? <laugh>

Montreal Impact with Drogba also look decent.

Is that on the East Coast, forgive my ignorance? I'm veering between DC and Dallas. Do Dallas get good coverage? Maybe I should wait for one of these new teams to start up

It has more to do with the people who live in the area. I lived most of my life in the general area. DC is the kind of city that people move to when they are young from somewhere else and then move away after like 5 years. That means that their loyalties are not to DC teams and you can really tell that when you go to DC games with the exception of the NFL team and the NHL team. When you go to the NBA, WNBA, MLS, and MLB teams most times you will see more fans from the other team than the DC team and no one who is there to watch the DC team really cares.

I'm looking at Toronto to support this season. If a new team starts up I might follow them but it would be a worry if they were to fold quite quickly, I think football in the States and Canada has a history of things like that. Are new teams likely to be successful in the MLS era as it is now or do they need huge financial backing?

MLS is very healthy financially now, they have a salary cap and a single-entity structure that kept player salaries down while the league was growing... they did fold a couple franchises in the early 2000s (both in Florida) but have grown rapidly since then and almost every team sells out almost every game, with a few exceptions. The four teams slated to come in over the next 2-3 seasons are in LA, Atlanta, Minnesota, and the Miami Beckhams... they're already talking about doing another round of expansion a few years after that after initially saying they were going to stop at 24 teams total.

So, after that long answer to your question, the short answer is... in the current era, new teams are very likely to be successful. There are cities lining up to get in on MLS.

As far as the games go... the Portland Timbers sure looked good this weekend, could have scored 6 goals on the counter if they had finished better! Looking forward to a repeat. Also looking forward to Hull City coming to California for a few preseason games (I can dream, right?).

Minnesota could be a good one for me, isn't that where they filmed Fargo? That or Atlanta. I'm not going to jump on the Beckham bandwagon I think

I find the whole concept of randomly picking a team to support completely alien.

If you have no affinity to any particular team or city, you might as well just pick the most successful one. :emoticon-0142-happy

Agreed. My allegiances have always come about naturally, even if the outcome is rather bizarre. I'm almost embarrassed to admit how this Missourian-cum-Texan became a Hull City fan, but here I am.

Fargo is in North Dakota. But they did film quite a lot in Minnesota.

I like Fargo so the closest team to where they film that is mine, saying that I might have overlooked Kansas. My mate says support the winners too but then he grew up a Sunderland fan
