Never been interested or had contact with cannabis/drugs in the past, but my biggest fear is for unborn kids whose parents smoke this stuff and the child gets a portion before it is born. If they don't get it there then passive absorption is next - not a good sign for future society.

Thanks for that, knew it was happening but making cannabis legal and therefor more available scares me into thinking that some mother's would pass it on to kids as "being good for them", or am I being unfair to moden day young mothers?
Not anymore than you would think a young mother would pass off drinking alcohol as being good for them. Making cannabis or any drug for that matter illegal only makes it more available to younger people, as i said earlier most under 16s in the uk couldnt walk into a bar or go the the off license and get served, but they all know someone who can get weed off some dealerif they aint getting it themselves.

I think this is one of those times when the people have made their decision and the law can 'get real' or become an ass. Today, cannabis is either widely used or legal - but it's widely used either way.
Firstly the medical bit. Heroin - which of course is a vile drug to abuse - is actually a medicine on the NHS! It's used as a painkiller in extreme cases. Of course it's not called heroin, it is prescribed under its medical name, diamorphine, and is strictly controlled. Sadly I know of a lad who died of a brain tumour in his 40s, and his lass (a mate of mine) had to administer him with diamorphine AKA heroin near the end. FFS if something like heroin can have medicinal properties, it stands to reason that cannabis can! As for the recreational properties, cannabis, although certainly not harmless, is nothing compared to alcohol and tobacco. Figures from the BBC website through the Lancet. Yes, spot on, here the law is an ass. A relatively harmless drug (cannabis) is illegal. A much worse drug, alcohol, which BTW killed my brother and at at least two people who I was once mates with, is OK, and tobacco, which kills half of its long term users including my dad is alright too. BTW, I like a pint or ten, and have been boozing this evening, I'm not being moralistic, I know I'm ****ing my body up, just pointing out the government hypocrisy. Agree with Bri and others upthread that cannabis should be legal.
Joining in this thread a bit late I know. Never use the stuff personally. I know plenty who have for many years and they`re certainly not addled. I also know some who have treated alcohol with disrespect and they are wrecked beyond repair. The words `sensible` and `moderation` spring to mind but I honestly don`t know how anything other than self restraint can prevail. Struggling to get my point across here but isn`t it about self control?
