Great strike, a worthy contender for 2nd place.

That would be for a different thread. Imo a better goal by a better player.

Cantona was class but Berkamp edges it for me. But im not biased and have no vested interest in either.

Derek Forster (goalie) played for us in the mid 60s and he was only 15, I think :emoticon-0105-wink: . . . . he wasn't very good, though (parrentlies, obviously) :emoticon-0100-smile

Edit : Steve Bould was geet old, but he didn't look as old as Gatesy, who was about 70, I believe <whistle>

I met Derek Forster years ago , cracking bloke.

The biggest problem the fans had with him was that he wasn't Monty.

Derek Forster under 16 at time.
'centre hald Freddie Hall the oldest when we had an injury crisis in the '50s. I believe he was just on or turned 40 but Relic will confirm or fix.

    Here's one for you.
Who has been your most successful manager?

    1. By trophies.

    2. By promotions.

    3. On a games won ratio during their reign.

Have thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread chaps.

Jesus, Nostalgic, I remember Fred Hall with his shock of silver hair. Solid cetre half but I've had to look his age up. He was born in Chester-le-Street in 1917. He signed for us in 1946 from Blackburn and stayed until 1955. He didn't play in his last season here (we'd signed Ray Daniel) so his last game was in 1954 at 37 years-old. He then had one season at Barrow before retiring at 39. (wiki).

Dave Halliday was signed in 1925 - not sure, but I think from Queen of the South - to replace Charlie Buchan who'd gone to Arsenal. Dave played four full seasons for us and never scored less than 35 per season. Billy's right about his best year when he scored 43.

Can't remember the game he played but do remember the comments when the announcer gave the team changes over the tannoy just befor KO. A mixture of laughter and disbelief, but it was in the days of 11v11 and none of this puffy substitute/squad business.

We did win though and he got a cheer every time he cleared the ball. Happy days.
