Tripping an opponent is impossible if there is no contact, there was contact, it was minimal but the the defender knew the risk. Funny how there's loads of penalties given when there is no contact at all(player diving)and its not headline news, but because it's LFC its under the microscope in minute detail.
And is the "interpretation" not about the type of contact..e.g. Defender hitting striker however lightly and deciding if it was enough to be classed as a foul...I assume the lineman from his position without ten slow mo replays and after reading that inch thick version of the rules officials get decided there was enough. The ref didn't but must have talked to the linesman and become convinced by his view enough to give it. Alternatively when they see an attacker move their body unnaturally into a position to make contact such as in most of Young's incidents where his leg goes at right angles to hit the defender; they believe the contact was initiated not by the defender but the attacker and as such is a foul the other way. Personally do I like players who go down easy? No but then when officials clearly and rarely reward a player for staying on their feet even when fouled why would you? The reality is that it will never go back to full contact and siding with defenders when they are worth half as much as the strikers.. The forwards will always be protected and use that protection to the limit of the interpretation. I personally believe it's evened out balance wise with Keepers being over protected under contact they initiate and defenders being allowed to obstruct with no intention of ever playing the ball...as some examples. As fans in all the example above. We will winge when it's against us and defend when it's for us. Some will be more debatable than others... But there's no moral high ground unless you stop watching altogether lol. Players officials and managers accept it when it benefits them so their complaints are meaningless when it goes against them.

A team takes luck where and when it can get it but cheats never prosper. To gain three points by cheating means form is bad and sooner or later that bad form converts into bad results because good form lasts longer than cheating form. Not just for Liverpool, but for all clubs.
