On all things SAFC. Ask a question see if anyone can answer it. We may learn something or just be bored ****less. My first question. On Sat v Ston, we started with only one english player. Jack ****ing Rodwell. Is this a record or has there been a team of no english players?
The first non-British player I remember was probably Ted Purdon, a South African centre forward we signed from Birmingham in 1954, but I could be wrong. He scored 39 in 90 games for us, but left along with the rest of the team in 1957 when Alan Brown became manager. I'm trying to think of a player from the Irish Republic before that, because that seems the most likely foreign origin, but surprisingly enough, I can't
It definately was Roly Gregoire, and he was was terrible I took Mrs. A. to see us play Blackburn Rovers and he played (the only match that she's ever been to) . . . . she was bored and suddenly looked forward from the Fulwell end (after looking around for something interesting) and she was shocked to see how 'different' he looked
George Mulhall holds the record overall (i read that the other day when relic was on about him) but prem. Nee idea now.
