Spurs have had 11 and not one of them has ever finished above him. Also in that time Spurs have won one League cup compared to Wenger's 3 titles, two doubles and 6 FA cups.
Is . Pretty sure If he had the Real Madrid or Barcalona job he would win the Champions League. They are bigger clubs with better players more money to spend ,better weather and less games.
Even during the lean years spending **** all when moving to the Emirates he still got to a few cup finals and qualifed for CL every year.
He's a good manager imo, but he's massively under-achieved in the last 9 years. He has to be winning the league imo to still be considered great.
Well I did say, to be still considered great. There's no excuse for the last 3 seasons tbf. Let's not open that can of worms again
I also told you I'd take a tub of margerine right now That doesn't bode well for Wenger's rep in all honesty. BTW I thought he was 64, but he's 66. Can't explain it but somehow that seems much worse.
Its not utter non-sense. There's alot of truth to it .Im willing to admit that and have been pretty critical of Arsene myself)
The thing is Wengers best asset (IMO) is his ability in the transfer market. The fact he is so anti-spending just undermines his best attributes. I have to say I think the current problem is not just Arsene. There is no pressure on him from the board and we have repeatedly missed our top transfer targets. The whole operation at Arsenal used to run smoother.
As has been said many times through the years, the big, big problem is losing Dein and even worse never replacing him! Then getting Wenger to take on all the financial responsibility as well as the footballing stuff - giving him too much power, dividing his attention away from the football (where it should be) and there then being not enough oversight on him. Dein had amazing contacts, worked really hard and smart and got loads of good business deals/transfers done.
I agree. We know for a fact Wenger wanted to sign Suarez, Goetze and Higuian - Gazidis etc.. failed to land those players. I have been on the fence about Wenger for a few years. On one hand he is still exceptional at spotting talent and his teams (generally) play fantastic football. I truly hope we never go back to the George Graham days. Hopefully Arsenal will become like Ajax and Barca and always be associated with good attacking football. On the other hand though without the big characters (Vieira/Adams/Thierry etc..) his sides lack mental toughness and fall apart under pressure. Wenger does'nt seem to have the coaching ability to stop this from happening EVERY year. On top of that we regularly go into a new Season short in 1-2 positions and it always backfires. Someone must be telling Arsene to 'keep doing what he is doing' because it seems to be the same every Season. (even now when we have bigger resources available) - when you look at all that its not just Wenger that's the problem. The board is clearly not helping.
I agree that the board is definitely not helping. They should either have been signing someone a lot better than Gazidis or someone a lot more hands on to support/challenge Wenger. I think as well as Wenger's reknowned stubbornness, which is truly frustrating at times (and is a huge reason), I do think another reason we have been 1-2 players short consistently if our ridiculously high injury list and the fact that at least half of the very, very promising youngsters we had have missed key parts of their development through injury and either never reached the level or taken longer than planned.
wanted to chime in again here. The truth is it doesnt matter whether or not we want Wenger to stay or go. There is only one person that will decide his future - himself. The board will NEVER sack him. EVER. Even if Arsenal go down they would STILL keep him on. (but of course at that point he would probably walk away). Thats why whenever we get angry at losing a game or throwing away a title there is no point to it - Arsene Wenger really is un-sackable at Arsenal. I think his efforts in the first half of his spell are truly amazing and unparalleled. Going a season unbeaten, winning the league 3 times, transforming Arsenal and English football in general - he will always be known as a legend. Me, personally, looking at his OVERALL spell, I don't think he is in the league of SAF or even Mourinho. Its a shame that the last 10 years have put a big damper on the view of his spell in charge. The truth is many other managers at other top clubs would have been sacked going 9 years without a trophy, and he does seem to have gotten a bit eccentric of late IMO. I just dont think its healthy to have a manager with so much power as Wenger at a football club; there needs to be some sort of checks and balances between the board and manager and at Arsenal I think thats where its gone wrong. There is no real pressure on him, and this has lead to the lack of overall winning mentality at the club and why each post match interview consists of mentioning 'team spirit and mental strengths' instead of any real analysis on the players/game.
