HEAR HEAR!!! I will rep you for that!! Its exactly what i would do. There are too many old drivers causing accidents and creating problems, but there are also lots of good young drivers out there who do everything they can to be a good driver and take the Pass plus course, but only get a small reduction. Instead of increasing womens premiums why not lower mens! Its appaling

I'll come in at the tail end of this. The reason premiums are high for 17 year olds is because they are a bigger risk. If an individual can prove that he or she is not a bigger risk they should have discounts. But how can that be proved? In NZ people can drive at 15, which is stupid to my mind.

Then there are people like me who can get fully comp insurance for about GBP 175 a year and I've written off two cars in the last 4 years. One wasn't my fault and for the other I was only partly to blame - according to Mrs NZ, anyway. I shouldn't have been startled when a rock came through my back window.

Thanks Norway. I'd forgotten about the game. After two days snow leave I have to go to work, unfortunately.

There was a time that being military put 25% on your premium! Thankfully not these days.

My mother has just stopped driving. She is 87. She has a Volkswagen Golf GTI from 1998 with 44.000kms. I may save the car for Little Ak to learn with.

There is no way to prove you are a good driver, even those having done Pass Plus might write a car off in a few weeks. Why should you pay extra just in case you are a bad driver. Wouldnt it be best to start premiums off cheap and then if you have an accident or do something stupid/bad you pay more. Dont punish people for others faults!

Sorry Norway, don't agree. There are many elderly people driving here quite safely. I now have a French driving license that entitles me to drive until I cannot, or I lose my 12 points that I have been given as a safe driver. In my opinion it is more to do with the amount of traffic on the road. Clearly in Paris for example a different set of conditions apply, but in the country areas you can drive for fifty miles and not see another moving vehicle.

There are many match box type cars around that have a maximum speed of 50 kmh and you don't have to have a driving license even.

Fair point Frenchie but I was referring to the UK and average urban conditions , sorry I should have been clearer !
You can go up North here and not see another car for a day! but then out insurance laws are more civilised , its the speed limits that are silly here!

Been plumbing, my pet hate, today.

Been listening to the match with my earphones on.

Popped out to close the shutters.

Came in with a tickle in my ear.

    Fished out a washer.

    Wondered where that should be.

    Problem solved. Phew!

Mme suggested that I looked to see if my earphones were intact.;)

In Jersey, we don't have road tax but where in the UK the road tax disc would show, we have to display a "vid" which shows that you are insured. It is an identical design no matter which company you're with (it has to be a Jersey-based insurance company so it has a watermark of the design in the top portion of the flag) and has your policy number, car registration and the month the policy expires (all policies expire at the end of the month, no matter which day in the month you renew them). I'm sure there's probably more to it than that, but as I can't drive, I don't know but once I can, I dread to think what my insurance costs would be as an epileptic on an island where there are only about 2 or 3 insurance companies that I can go to!

Barry, same here. I have often wondered why the UK doesn't adopt the insurance certificate on the windscreen aproach when there are reported to be so many drivers on the road without insurance. My daughter was hit from the rear by an uninsured driver, not her fault at all, but the increase in her insurance premiums was totally unfair.

If insurance was more affordable for youngsters in the UK more people would pay it! , when they are earning a couple of hundred quid a week tops and are getting quotes of thousands of pounds it is not surprising there are many un insured folk on the roads ,especially if the youngster needs the car for work!!!

Our car insurance took a dramatic drop this year when we changed companies.

It is a system however designed to stop you. You have to give your existing insurer two months notice that you intend to change.

There is an insurance company that fits a box in your car, and if you drive well for 3 months, they reduce your premium..it's a great idea..but i wonder what their definition of 'driving well' is...oh, and it's for 17 year olds :) (but it was too expensive for us!..mad!)

Glad to see that you made it back H. I feel quite relieved with that and can now go off to my bed without a care. ;)

See you all tomorrow, although it might be earlier or later depending on the speed of the traffic on the autoroute.
