Bristol Rovers have today completed the loan signing of Swansea City striker Oliver McBurnie, who has signed a deal which will see him remain at The Memorial Stadium for the remainder of the season.

Rovers boss Darrell Clarke said this afternoon; “I’m delighted to be able to bring Oliver to the club and wish him every success while he’s with us.

“He is a highly rated young player and has had brief experience of playing in League Two this season with Newport.

“He was recalled early from that spell in order so that he could train with Swansea’s first team squad and it’s really pleasing that they have allowed him to join us on loan until the end of the season.

“We have picked up a few injuries of late and his arrival will not only enable to cover the absences of the players involved, but also add to competition for places in our first team squad.”

The 20 year old graduated through the ranks at Bradford City, though he did appear in the 2013 Milk Cup for Manchester United, and made 15 league appearances for The Bantams before signing for Swansea last summer in a three year deal.

Last season he spent time on loan with Conference outfit Chester City, and he scored their consolation goal when they slipped to a 5-1 defeat at The Memorial Stadium last April.

Loaned out to Newport County earlier this season, he scored a 23 minute hat trick on his debut, against Luton Town and was recalled by Swansea after two more games for The Exiles.

The deal is subject to international clearance and Rovers are hoping that the Scottish U-19 and U-21 international will be able to take his place in Darrell Clarke’s squad for the visit of AFC Wimbledon tomorrow.

I would have thought in the article from our OS it would state what type of striker he is, like target man or pacy etc. But nothing!

Ok, so looking at the youtube clip, every goal is a header apart from the last 3 goals which was his hattrick which all were tap ins. Looks like a target man figure then.

Im all for needing another CF due to injuries but looks like lacking pace which we need desperately and dont we already have Fallon for this type of player? Seems a strange appointment to me.

Looking at the video on the Bristol Rovers news he appears to know where the net is, has trained with Swansea first team squad so he probably is a bit useful

We also have Lucas who is older :D it will be interesting to see what happens to Fallon now I think that could be it for him. So if this is a loan move for the rest of the season is Gaffney's injury worse then we first thought.

Just looked on F M finishing, heading, rating 12. Speed 11
I know F M is only a computer game but the stats are reasonably accurate

I think this is more of a solution to our needs for the next 2 weeks due to injuries. Instead of then letting him go back after that, may as well keep him in case more injuries come after. Then we have to find someone else etc. May as well stay and build up relationships etc.

If DC is smart, after seeing what Swansea did to Newport, DC should put a clause in the deal where he cant be recalled!

The headed goals are all quality strikes. Can't remember the last time we had a decent threat in the air. And he looks like a smart striker who drops off and finds space. Remains to be seen, but he looks like a really good signing.

As he is only 19 I wonder if he does well for us whether he could be a long term loan next season or possibly a permanent signing if the fee was reasonable, because unless he is a wonder kid he is unlikely to break into the premiership squad at that age

Put him up front with Taylor or Easter and have Montano start on the left
