Just watched the north east news after an extremely pleasant evening. Plenty of red wine, two days off work. Bought and watched the dvd "Kes", made a fantastic cottage pie. Relaxville. Anyway. Perfect timing. Movie finishes in time for the north east BBC news (sad but true I like to keep abreast of what is happening). Main headline. Top story. McLaren has not been sacked........ WTF? How is that f+++++g news? It's up there with North Korea hasn't nuked South Korea. The Queen hasn't died. Man doesn't bite dog. Newcastle-centric media. Put them up against a wall and give me a gun and PLENTY of ammo x
Who would they even get if they did sack him. What with the league position, the injury ravaged team and Mike Ashley looking over your shoulder what good quality manager in their right mind would want the job.
Of course they will, and, let`s be honest, Ashley`s got plenty of £`s to throw at them. There`s not really that much risk to a managers rep. A). They stay up. That`s because I`m brilliant. Thank you very much, ker-ching. B). They go down. They were too far gone, even I couldn`t keep them up even though I`m brilliant. Thank you very much, ker-ching. Easy money. `Arry?
With a decent salary, a 10 game contract, and a £5m bonus for getting 14/15 points from 30 available, I reckon almost any manager would take the chance. They've got important players due back soon and I think that could even save McClaren's job.
Love you taste in DVDs Bobby. what a book and movie KES was brings me bk to my school days out nesting after wagging off school.
Well the best they could get before was McClaren and they're in a worse position now than they were then. I don't think money talks as much when it comes to managers. The likes of Moyes seem happy to turn down offers in favour of staying out of work and waiting for the right job, which isn't the one at Newcastle.
Do you think they might sack McClaren and hope they do to us what we have been doing to them as regards putting in a new manager just before the derby. personally, i hope he stays till the end of his contract
Yeah they're more protective over their reputations than footballers are. The best managers can be unemployed for long periods of time if nothing comes up but that never happens with players. If I was them I'd get rid of McClaren immediately and get Pearson in, he's the level of manager who wouldn't mind taking a relegation but I reckon he could keep them up anyway.
It's a bit like Leeds here! They take up all the news coverage while the rest of us get the scraps! Unfortunately the major city (or perceived larger city) steals the limelight. It's easy to see when you compare both cities that Sunderland gets the raw end of the deal which is stupid really. It would be far more beneficial for the NE to have a strong and prosperous Sunderland AND Newcastle. It won't happen though and the councils shall continue to channel funds up north.
Seems more 'wishful thinking' from you two rather than realism to me. Nobody would blame a top manager for not being able to salvage that ****house club from it's current plight. On the other hand, if they kept them up their stock would go through the roof. A lucrative contract of £5m or so, for 10 weeks work, £500k a week... I'd be surprised if any unemployed manager in the world turned that down.
I don't recall much precedent, if any, of top class managers taking over at mid to low tier clubs in danger of relegation just for the payday. Do you have any examples? Talking about Newcastle specifically, you're assuming that Ashley would be sensible enough to fund such a move but he's not that predictable. If I remember rightly the last time this happened to them he brought in Shearer, who was probably paying them.
they could always bring back Ozzi Ardeles to finish off the job he started. He had them heading to division three with his last 2 gates below 10k. Yes I wonder where the 2 million who havn't missed a game for 200 years were on those games
