Interesting that if there had been after the event technology yesterday the penalty decision would have been confirmed as correct.
We'll see if your judgement changes tomorrow if Arsenal get awarded a similar penalty. Before you answer, Hull City would never get awarded one in a similar situation at that late stage in the game and in the corner of the pitch if we were playing one of the Premier League darlings.
If the same happens tomorrow and Arsenal get a pen under similar circumstances, we'll have to take it on the chin! Them's the rules.
Quite the opposite for me I'm afraid, I wouldn't want to see our players do that and wouldn't expect a penalty for such a non-challenge. Might as well stop tackling in the box altogether if that amount of contact constitutes a foul. Players should throw themselves to the floor during every single corner and expect a penalty because there's a hell of a lot more contact going on there.
Just seen the replay, definite penalty, really not sure what the squabble is about. Benteke doesn't dive, he's at full pace and is clipped.
my fav all time city player dived Bury away and was sent off as it was so blatant...sadly diving becoming the norm
He was craftily tripped at Bury and wrongly sent off. The player who crunched into him at Villa away in the Premier League, Milner, Barry ? and put Ash out of the game for 18 months didn't even have a free kick awarded against him.
No penalty. Anywhere else on the pitch and it wouldn't have been no foul. Lawrenson would have screamed for him to get up because he'd hardly been touched. If Dawson has the ball gets touched in his own penalty area would you expect him to fall over and try and get a free kick?
Penalty for me - Delaney clips his heel with his knee (while cleverly appearing to be pulling out of the challenge)
Interesting if we were all " in the van " for the after the event technology decision should they introduce it. Could be a bit chaotic.
For that to be a penalty, the ref would have had to be satisfied that Delaney's actions were either careless, reckless or used excessive force.
The lino informed, the ref decided. Hardly either in my book. Benteke was waiting for a touch, and buckled his knees when he felt it after dragging his foot. .
It's a penalty! WTF Delaney was ****ing about at is beyond me, yes Benteke's got passed him, he's also running the ball into touch, even if he doesn't his cross will highly unlikely reach any Liverpool player anyway. Delaney has slid in, caught his foot with his knee, soft yes, correct yes! Why he slid in, instead of trying to get in between the goal & Benteke is a mystery!
It's a penalty for me, simple as. Delaney, despite trying to withdraw from the tackle still took the player down. Benteke was in control of the ball and past the player. The fact it pisses off Pardew is an absolute bonus.
The video trials that have just been given the go ahead includes penalty decisions. Includes giving the match official the option of looking at the incident on an ipad at the halfway line. http://www.theguardian.com/football...ls-video-technology-referees-gianni-infantino
You're arguing technicalities now. If a linesman says it's a penalty, the ref will give it on their advice.
