Only have the odd toke nowadays, gave up smoking tabacco and went onto the electronic things so if I smoke it has to be neat. Getting too old to smoke it neat and work, so it's special occasions only. On to Trump and Clinton, Clinton wants to please everybody, no chance of that. New face same old ****, lookig after her backers. If the minorities think Clinton will wave her magic wand and life will become paradise overnight, they have been smoking better weed than I've found in while. Trump appears to want to please only himself, somewhat easier to achieve. If he were to get elected the career politics men have seen that he is miles out of his depth and would need help. That's why he is getting endorced by many. I'm sure they see it as a back door to the Presidency or at least to power. Trump would be the face of the republican party whilst the grey suits would get on with running the country and screwing as much as possible out of it for themselves and their backers. You need a guy (or gal) with a track record of sorting out problems. Bloomberg is hard, no messing but fair. A far better bet.
In response to Trump's Super Tuesday success, internet searches for "How can I move to Canada?" spiked by 1100%!
The Trump hysteria is vaguely reminiscent of the rise of Hitler in the '30's. Rampant nationalism, extreme rhetoric, twisting of historical events, and of course a scapegoat. In this case the Muslims.
"Rampant nationalism" = every american politican "extreme rhetoric" = ditto "twisting of historical events" = every politician "and of course a scapegoat. In this case the Muslims" = blaming Muslims for acts of Islamic extremist terrorism, probably isn't all that far fetched tbf.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo Piers and I shared the same school in the county town of Lewes in East Sussex. He was about 6 years younger than me so I never knew him at school. However, under age drinking was a common sport in Lewes, almost as popular as discussing what a twat Piers Morgan was, all of his class mates did it as soon as he turned his back. He wasn't even famous then, just a right pompous twat.
I cannot agree. I detest Trump. He's a charlatan, and a dangerous charlatan at that. His use of ultra nationalistic rhetoric, scapegoating of Muslims, and convenient rearrangement of historical events, are all to reminiscent of Hitler. He's a huckster, an egocentric demagogue.
I cannot stand him! If I see him on TV, my hackles go up. I hated him even before I realised he was a Gooner!
I can never forgive Morgan for running the stories on army brutality in Iraq whilst editor of the Mirror, based on faked pictures, then refusing to back down for quite some time. Sure he lost his job over it eventually, but he did a lot of damage. The only good thing he's ever done is speak for gun control in the States.
...and then give some psychotic gun nut a platform on his show, vindicating the psychosis of the pro-gun lobby.
Here, here. It’s about time for a sensible US anti-immigration policy: everybody gets deported whose families arrived since 1492. Why limit yourself to just one? seems to be Trump’s attitude to scapegoats. He conducts group hates on Mexicans as enthusiastically as on Muslims. Many felt that everything was so bad already, and the other candidates so obviously lacking in redeeming qualities, that Hitler couldn’t be any worse. Von Papen felt he would be easy enough to manipulate, and that anyone was preferable to Von Schleicher.
You're clearly a bright, intelligent guy, rwaeb. So, I hate to say ''Only in America" but really, only in America could such an obvious charlatan as Trump be taken seriously enough to have a chance of being elected President.
I hope that remains the case, but since personality politics has overtaken policy politics, it seems that it could happen anywhere.
But he ain't silly. If Nigel Farage had taken over the Conservatives, Farage would be PM now. If you combined the UKIP vote with the core Conservative vote they would be unstoppable. He's probably seen that. And who is he up against? Bernie 'Scargill' Sanders, Hilary 'you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours' Clinton and a couple of Mexican Middleweights behaving like they are at a weigh-in. **** me sideways, if Richard Nixon (post Watergate) was still alive he'd walk it......honestly... It's a bit like having 5 piles of cat turd in front of you and being asked choose which one to eat.
It has been said several times in past American elections but it is probably truer today than ever. If God wanted America to have a president he would have sent a candidate.
