They're a huge step up on Spurs. One of a small number of teams who can genuinely win the CL in a given season (not just this season). One of only about two we have.

If we're talking about 5/6-goal-a-season strikers, would prefer what we've got. We're spoilt for choice infact!

Wijnaldum would be absolutely perfect for us. Exactly what we need. A midfield 3 of Romeu/Clasie/Wijnaldum would be right up there.
(I said that when Newcastle signed him as well.. Just saying :) )

Don't you think Messi would be a touch better? ;)

I would take Wijnaldum in a heartbeat, no question. But he's the only Newcastle player who really stands out to me. Similarly, the only Sunderland player who stands out is Van Aanholt - if that is Ron intends to continue with a back five for a lot of next season. Cedric and Van Aanholt are pretty much perfect wing-backs (but less so full backs).

Even though I rate Norwich's squad the least, they actually have as many players who I like as those two NE teams combined. I would be happy to see us sign Redmond or Naismith. I can't think of a single Villa player I would take though.

If you really push me for some more names, then Colback could be a useful squad player were Wanyama to leave and we don't bring in a direct replacement (we instead do what we're doing at the moment, and promote Romeu to be a first team regular). And Shelvey could become a useful signing for someone, were he to get the right management and also himself work at his attitude and mental side of the game. But right now I still have far too many reservations, and see far too many faults in his game.

Just don't go anywhere near Janmaat please Saints.

I think you and I have similar thoughts on both Janmaat and Sissoko, avoid both.

Adama is the only Villa player I would take a look at. But then Barca have a buy back clause

All I can think is that people who like either of those players only ever see them in the highlights when they're in or around the opposition penalty box. It certainly can't be because of seeing highlights when they're defending Newcastle's right flank superbly well (not least because most such highlights wouldn't even have either player in the frame!)

I think we'll be buying abroad again. It has certainly worked so far... Until teams figure out how to play against them.

Jack Grealish and Carles Gil from Villa would be worth a punt, if we could get them cheaply. Especially Grealish. He reminds me of a young lallana, with the right coaching he could be quality.

Funny how opinions differ isn't it? Colback and Van Aanholt are 2 of the worst players at both sides imo (especially Colback), and the Newcastle fans I know all love Janmaat (I'm meh to him either way, but agree about him and Sissoko's defensive positioning and just general attitude to defending).

Weren't we pretty strongly linked with Gana last summer before he signed for Villa? I wonder if we may go back in for him when they go down.

Yeah, I'm not actively hoping that we sign Colback. I certainly don't see him as being good enough to be a regular starter for us. But I've always advocated on here the need to have decent squad players, and so I see Colback as a possible cheap option to provide some DM cover were Wanyama to leave and not be like-for-like replaced. But I did say "if I am pushed" to give another name.

And with PVA, there's no way he gets in ahead of Bertrand for me. Not up for debate. But playing a back five with Bertrand as the left sided CB, I see PVA as a better attacking outlet than Targett (in terms of pace and goal threat. I have to confess, I'm not totally sure what his crossing is like). But I'm hardly going to be disappointed if we didn't sign him.

Rather take a look at few Championship players. They seem to help West Ham and Leicester.

Man Utd to come back from behind at some point during this game then. Going down to ten men seems to be a positive thing this weekend from that respect.

The problem here is with the new TV deal I think the mental prices are going to spread to the Championship as I think clubs will be over spending to try and get promoted. Think any promising young player in the Champ will be costing upwards of £10m.

Really who though? Would any of the decent youngsters be available? Maybe Cook from Leeds though. Plus Championship players who have had a good season are going for £10million
