Which is why when Jelavic went we shoulda signed a big unit up front, like for like. Diomande might come good or fall off a cliff I dont know. But he isnt the type of player we should have signed.
Agreed. Although he does seem a bit more hustle and bustle than anyone else we have. Aaron McLean was a tiny little whippet but he was the sort of argy bargy player we need, doesn't need to be a big towering mass. If Diomande has the strength to play like that, obviously with more ability, he might work out. Although I've gotta admit, he looks closer to McLean ability wise than playing style, which is a worry in itself.
I get told this a lot but I don't know what people are watching. Maybe he works hard when I'm not there. Based on the games I've seen this season, most notably the last two, he's been the same lazy twat he was last season. He didn't make an effort at all the other night to get into space or give someone a forward pass. As the poster I quoted said, Donaldson for them did everything Hernandez didn't. Every ball forward they played he battled for it and gave our defence a headache, which led to the goal. We'd never have got the ball in that position to shoot because Hernandez wouldn't chase a hopeful ball into the channel and force the mistake. Three times Hernandez ended our attack by giving away a stupid free kick for pushing the defender as he went up for a header. That's his signature move. The only reason he does it is he's too scared to challenge fairly by jumping with the defender to win the header. You never see him do that. He either gives a cheeky but obvious shove or he stays away altogether. Bruce made a comment a few weeks ago in an article where he was praising Hernandez for his finishing but he said something like "I'd still like to see a bit more from him if I'm being greedy". He obviously sees and is frustrated by Hernandez's lack of application but he doesn't have much other option. I agree we don't want midfielders up front but currently that's what we're doing with Diame and that means Hernandez is in the lone striker role. But he doesn't have the appetite for that. If Hernandez is going to start he needs someone to run the channels and hold it up. His only strength is finishing the chances but we can't create them if we can't get the ball forward and make it stay there because the strikers won't battle for it.
