Emergency board meeting today according to Mark Douglas. Not what we need to hear - MA should be stepping in and making this decision above the heads of the incompetent and ponderous board.

Apparently Ashley is one that has called it. McClaren is expected to be sacked.

I personally think that Newcastle should wait until after the Leicester match before firing McLaren.

Newcastle are stuffed this season already and it would be good to ensure that the title went to one of the non-Big Four clubs. Which would be the only positive that could be found from this mess.

He won't be sacked. I don't know why anyone thinks he will.

For me it's a weak and withered hope. Hope and expectation are distinct from one another.

Ashley's gambling with £100m of tv money if he persists with McClaren. He's a vile bloke, but he's not stupid.

SAFC fan in peace. From where I'm sat it looks like he'll go after the next game, then a new manager will win the Derby, then a new manager will rally a decent squad. Despite decent performances it's nailed on for us to go down & you to stay up.

It's a shame that any NE team should go down but statistically and in terms of form, you boys look likely to stay up.
Sam has you chaps fighting whereas our lot couldn't fight there way out of a paper bag.

Got to say I honestly think that Saints equaliser yesterday will make the difference. We are fighting but I have a horrible feeling that it's going to be us going down. Every pundit thinks that we have Sam and that's enough to stay up. Don't want to see either of us going down but with Swansea and Bournemouth now out of it for me it's one of us and I fear very much it's Sunderland

On Betfair it's level pegging between Sunderland and Newcastle are to go down. Norwich and Villa have lower odds (especially Villa) but at this moment in time I think that I will lay Sunderland's relegation position here as I think that 1.6something this is a good lay because I can't see Newcastle beating anyone again this season. The damage has been done.

In the last few minutes someone has laid Sunderland to drop at 1.62, so clearly someone is willing to risk £400 to gain £600 that the Black Cats aren't going to go down. And a few quid more.

On the Newcastle line the money is lining up the other way. This looks like trading money rather than someone trying to get a position and I think that I will try to join them if I can. But I am keeping the Sunderland lay, if it gets matched, as a position. Unless, of course I can trade out at over evens later on next week.

Ashley and Charnley are having a meeting at 2pm today to discuss McClaren's future.

What is there to talk about? Premier league survival looks unlikely at best. Only thing left to change is to sack the manager and hope for a miracle. Right now anyone with top flight experience can be considered superior to McClaren. He's simply lost the team completely. No one was trying yesterday. Well we're stick with that lot till the end of the season at least, but we shouldn't be stuck with McClown.

We are by no means down already. But minimum we need 3 wins and 3 draws in the remaining 10 games. That's 4 losses, 2 home wins, 1 away win and 2 home draws and an away draw. Beating Villa away is doable. Beating Swansea and Palace, drawing to Sunderland and Norwich, means we need one unlikely point from either Spurs or one of Liverpool or Southhampton away.

Ok, looking at that yes we're ****ed. Leicester, City and Liverpool are nailed on defeats. Leaving us having to draw either to Southhampton or Spurs. Hopefully Spurs will have secured Championsleague football with nothing to play for. Will 37 points be enough to stay up though? I believe so. I dont see mackems getting more than 9 points with their fixtures list. Maybe 12. If it is twelve we will go down. No way will we get more than 11 points out of 10 games.

More likely we will end on 35, 36 points. Then it's just a question can the mackems get 35 points or not. I think they can but it depends on how Chelsea, Everton and Stoke approach their games against the mackems.
