Monreal, Bellerin, Clyne and Moreno. They average just under 1 per 90 mins. Flanno averages 2. Always back in position - well it does help that he doesn't go forward as much.
I always felt there was a clue in the term "full back" that suggests a certain defensiveness God forbid modern football allows full backs to be defenders first eh....what Flanno needs is to loon forward more completely neglecting his duties, tackle like a wet fish or just pass to the opposition, deny he's from Liverpool, grow better hair, get himself adopted by a Portugese family changing his name to Jesus Flannerezo....then and only then should JK consider renewing his contract Surely we've all had enough of these defenders thinking they should read the game, tackle like men, pass to their own team mates and stay positionally solid.....add to that having the audacity to be born in Liverpool and being willing to run through a brick wall for their manager...****ing outrageous. Sort it out Jurgen.
Jimmy please sum up your view of 1. Finnan 2. Arbeloa 3. Risse 4. Aurelio just to give us a clue as to how you'd rate these guys.
LOL So you can't see the difference between a full back having to defend and attack, and one who only needs to focus on defending? And even then, he still gets caught out. But then again - we wonder why this club is where it is - because fans love to celebrate mediocrity, especially for players who won the postcode lottery. Irony is, this sack of **** was offered a contract but he turned it down because he was GREEDY. And then he got injured. But we never see the typical fume and criticism aimed at his way do we? I wonder why. Billy - believe me, I was blinded by strong challenges which compensate for a lack all other defensive abilities but unfortunately I'm not. And I wish I loved Scousers. But again, I don't because I don't care where you're from as long as you're good enough for the club. Is there an issue with that? it's funny because I'm the one being accused of favouritism to foreigners but you clearly don't show favouritism to Flanno, especially when we had a player called Manquillo last season who performed so much better but still got criticism. I didn't have a problem enjoying the likes of Fowler or McManaman. Why is that? Oh it's because they're good players. So spare the whole 'he's from Liverpool so I must hate him' bullshit. If you want players like Flanno in this team, then God help us. To end on a lighter note - I didnt even bring this whole debate up. A certain few were outraged that I didn't mention him in the list of top performers in the game. I didn't realise that so many people are upset that I don't rate Flanno.
Very good. Riise started off well but turned crap. Now these players are the definition of solid, reliable.
I have some fundamental problems with this post but I will start here: It is probably unfair you were called out personally (I was one of them jokingly) but it's based on your reputation for ignoring certain players performances or insisting on highlighting a flaw while your favourite players get a white wash..take Can for example..had a great game the other night. But if I wrote like you I would focus on all the times he gave the ball away..his lack of sprint speed..his lack of game intelligence at times. But I didn't because he had a good performance after some poor ones..why criticise improvement? Your style smacks of viciously destroying a player to save face irrespective of his most recent form or performance. What's constructive about that approach? As for "outraged" it was more taking the piss..only you seem to see in terms of absolutes..well your absolutes anyway. I have players I dislike but I don't go out of my way to slate them no matter what. I don't demonize them. He didn't like the contract offered so didn't sign...so what? He's looked around him at other players not giving a **** about his club while being offered better deals without the performance. It was up to him after that gamble to prove he was worth more. Then he got injured so now has less time to prove it...to call him a sack of **** is a disgrace. He didn't do a Suarez or Sterling and bad mouth the club or blackmail them. He just refused the contract. Also there is evidence there that the yank bastards were using his loyalty against him and still are. He's behaved respectably while standing up for himself...that is a bit of class with backbone...what he shows on the field where some others don't. I have an issue with this flying fb nonsense tactically... Great if you can get the WC players to do it...we can't...not about accepting mediocrity it's about accepting we aren't viewed as the club to be at any more...wishing for it to be doesn't make it so and accusing fans of wallowing in mediocrity because they know we won't have Barca's team is naïve. So I would rather we had players that as a unit are more secure at their primary job. Klopp appears to as well if he is targeting wingers..and he also appears to disagree with pretty much every point you made about Flanno BTW. Who to trust eh? I am not from Liverpool. But to suggest there doesn't need to be local players in the team shows a complete lack of understanding about where football should belong. I for want of a better term "borrow" this club from Scousers...it is first and foremost THEIR club. To just throw away a local connection for the sake of a few more points up the table makes supporting a club pointless..why call it Liverpool FC...sure brand it The Titans or the Dragons to please the Chinese ala Cardiff. We'll get the money buy the best players and win the trophies but then what's accurate about singing "Liverpool".. So while I would love the local talent to be always WC I think I'd still accept a compromise to keep a connection to the City that created the club and kept it alive before the likes of me popped along. That's celebrating more about the club than mediocrity. Your attitude is what has gone very wrong with the game. Why support Liverpool? If it's only about celebrating the best players why not switch teams each time one is dominant? What is it about Liverpool FC that you continue to support them despite sliding down in prestige? If it's not club identity which is and always should be a reflection of the City it belongs too what is the defining thing that makes you support them? Past glories? Anyway..you are entitled to your opinions and the tone of how you express them but don't be surprised if people notice double standards or a lack of continuity in how you judge and value players...
Double standards? It's funny how I constantly criticise Milner and Lallana but I had nothing but praise for them against City. Quite simply - play well and I will praise. And for the record - I don't think I said Flanno had a poor game (you may need to check). I just don't think it was as good as everyone made out - because he was beaten a few times and gave the ball away twice in very dangerous areas. I explained that pretty clearly in my original posts. In addition, I didn't even mention Flanno at all until some people had such a problem that I left him out of a list of players I thought were excellent on the night.
I know Jimmy means well and cares, but what you've just posted encapsulates my views - and I AM from Liverpool
Tbf And apologies if I didn't make that clear I do not doubt for one second that Jimmy cares a great deal about LFC.
To be fair to you Jimmy, this thread is not what Dirty Frank is talking about and it is maybe a little unfair to have name dropped you in this instance. However, it is true that you see things through rose tinted glasses at your favourites although you are entitled to your own views and a lot of it is very much against the grain of what people think. It's probably less about your opinions and more on the delivery of your opinions which grates. Keep up the good work though it's better to have more views than less views unless you are a total wum which you are not
C'mon Jimmy...that's the point..your lists after games omit players not on your "approved list" regularly. If it wasn't true how would people be picking up on the point? Yes, you now and again praise a player not on your list but lol..there is usually a "but"... And that " but" is rarely a negative one for the players you do like when they play poorly. Maybe I am wrong but there appears to be no flexibility in your judgements..once a player is bad listed nothing they do will change your mind. I thought he had a great game..but that doesn't mean I declared him the answer to our prayers or WC. Just believed he played well enough to keep Moreno out of the next game who has been very poor lately ..if the roles were reversed I'd say the same about Moreno. You say you are about performance but I guarantee you wouldn't start Lala ahead of Coutinho or Flannagan ahead of Moreno despite a string of poor performances from both those and Lala and Flanno grabbing their chance when brought in. If it's all about performance should they not be picked until their performance drops like the other two? Should Moreno and Coutinho not be held to the same performance standard as everyone else? It's a given that we should always try to upgrade the players we have but there's got to be some room to give existing players a chance to fight and improve. Especially since we can not buy the very best players at the moment.
It has diverted slightly but I was responding to specific points Jimmy made in one post.. It was maybe unfair that his name is dropped earlier in the thread and I acknowledged that..
