No, thank you, I'll continue to argue the point in this thread. If you want to make yourself look a fool by trying to argue that Ranieri's achievement, should Leicester win the EPL this season, will eclipse Cloughies entire career, you go ahead, pal.
I never said ANYTHING of the sort, you complete clown. What I said - was FACT. For the hard of thinking i.e. YOU, I'll repeat it one last time..... Leicester started this season as 5000/1 outsiders to win the PL title There has never been - in the history of World Sport - a winner who has come in at starting odds of 5000/1 - FACT. Therefore, by DEFINITION - Leicester winning the PL title this season, would be the biggest shock in sporting history. Unless you've got any FACTS that counter that, then kindly **** off
He's been owned, he's realised his error and he's trying to broaden the debate to cover his blushes. No-one was talking about the respective career achievements of Ranieri and Clough - only him, the massive biff.
What the hell difference does it make what the odds are? What do you think the odds were on Nott Forest winning the top flight title, and then going on the become the first ever English side to win and retain the top European trophy (of the time) in successive seasons, when they were sat in the equivalent of todays Championship?
Bearing in mind that Forest did it twice and won the European cup? Sorry, I posted that just after HIAG.
... my 'argument' does nothing of the sort unless you are a complete plum ... oh well. Who is marginalising anything? ... Clough's acheivements are of the highest order (I challenge you to find any comment of mine that suggests otherwise) ... but this thread is about a comparison of whether the possibility of Leicester winning the EPL this season would eclipse Clough's Forest winning of the top flight ... personally I think it would ... why? because the gulf between Forest and the top teams at that time was not as huge as it now is for any club coming up from the Championship and not having the backing of a Sheikh Mansoor or Abramovic ... I don't see how any rational argument can possibly discount that as a factor? ... becomes even clearer if you put it this way - how did the home nations get on in the World Cup or European Championships in the late 70s and early 80's? ... answer ... pretty poorly ... where were the players from nations who were successful plying their club football during those periods? ... abroad ... ... so in acheiving his title wins Clough, primarily, had to build a team capable of besting the best of British players ... the contrast now is that to win the EPL a team has to be capable of beating teams containing some of the best players in the world; i.e from countries winning the World Cup or European Championships ...
The odds denote the probability you plum, so a horse winning at 50/1 is a massive outsider compared to a winner who comes in at 10/1. Winning the league and then the following season winning another competition is TWO sporting events you bell end The facts are the facts - IF Leicester lift the title it's the biggest sporting shock ever. The end.
No, they don't. They represent the market's expression of confidence in the likelihood that an event will or will not happen. If the confidence is misguided, so are the odds. That's why, every year, LFC are odds on to win the title.
...otherwise known as the probability... Keep digging...... As for Liverpool being odds on for the title every year....not since the 80's lad, when the odds reflected their likelihood to deliver. #fail
Probability, yes, but not in the scientific sense. It's probabilities according to market confidence. Just because ten million Mousers blindly put their shirts on LFC winning the title this season, raising 'Pool's odds to 2/1, doesn't mean that they have a 50% chance of winning the title.
You must have missed the words STARTING ODDS. The odds compilers are very scientific, they're data nerds, they don't just pull numbers out their arse....their odds reflect the probabilities, which in turn is based on the relevant facts. ...and those FACTS came up with Leicester as being 5000/1 outsiders at the outset. Give it up ffs
Again, I ask you the question... What do you think were the "starting odds" on Forest winning the old Div 1 title, and then going on the win the equivalent of the CL in successive seasons after that, the year after being promoted, when they were sat in Div 2? What chance do you thing these "data nerds" of yours gave that Div 2 Forest side?
No idea, and it's irrelevant, as that's a combination of 4 sporting events We're talking about the SINGLE biggest sporting shock. Stop it now, I'm starting to feel embarrassed for you.
In the past ten years 5 different clubs have finished in the top 3 and only 3 clubs have won the league. It's been a closed shop. In the ten years prior to Forest winning the league, 10 different clubs finished in the top 3 with 6 clubs winning the league. Much more open shop. Teams like Spurs have talked for years about "cracking the top 4" like it was some kind of mountainous challenge. If Leicester don't just crack the top 4 but win the whole ****ing thing then it will be one of the greatest achievements in football history.
