West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has warned Tottenham not to wait too long if they want to sign Scott Parker.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has never hidden his interest in Parker, but conceded a deal could be difficult due to the finances involved.

Parker is expected to leave Upton Park this summer as he seeks to stay in the Premier League following West Ham's relegation to the Championship.

However, Allardyce insists if Spurs leave it until the last minute to swoop for Parker they will be left disappointed.

"It is a worry that Spurs might wait until the last minute because it would be the wrong time to do it," said Allardyce.

"There are no bids for Scott at the moment so we continue to improve him as if he is going to start the season in our team, until such time as somebody bids the right money that would be acceptable to the club."

"If they want to come and do it then, I will be telling the chairmen it is the most expensive time and not the cheapest.

"So if Harry is listening, or anyone at Tottenham, watch out, don't be waiting that long because you won't be able to do it."

West Ham expect Parker to move on before the close of the transfer window, but Allardyce claims there are no bids on the table for the England international.

"There are no bids for Scott at the moment so we continue to improve him as if he is going to start the season in our team, until such time as somebody bids the right money that would be acceptable to the club," added Allardyce.

"It's like that for every player at ever club. There is speculation and that will continue right through to the 31st of August unfortunately, but that is the way it is.

"We need to deal with it, it is very, very difficult indeed, but there is not a lot we can do about it."

I might be reading too much into it but it sounds like Parker has made up his mind that he wants to come to us. Other clubs have been linked to him yet Allardyce only mentions our need to bid.

I don't think that we are going to pay what the Porn Merchants want, or anything close to it, from the comments Harry has made.

Redknapp doesn't decide our transfer policy, KOBY.
You might be right in thinking that somebody at Spurs has decided to frustrate West Ham over this transfer, but it would be Daniel Levy.

I like Parker and I think that he'd be a good addition to the squad, but I'd worry about his wages and injury problems.
£5m would probably be a fair price.

Spurs won't give HR the money to buy him, if Levy cracks and lets Redknapp have his own way then he will bankrupt your club like he has every club he's managed

If we leave it to the last minute, West Ham won't snap our hand off?

    Yeah, right...

At least signing a 31 year old who just got relegated will show Modric the ambition of the club <laugh>

Heaven forbid we should miss out on a 31 year old whose claim to fame is being West Ham's player of the year.

I think Parker would give Spurs that extra bit of steal they have been missing, biggest problem at WH
was he was the supply for the attack, defence and groundstaff, rather than focusing on one position.

I would be happy with 5M, plus two loan deals for Rose and Kranjcar or Bentley.

Any of the players we want to get to rid of (bar Keane) would have shone in that lamentable side last year. I can't see what we would be gaining. We still have Palacios and Sandro. Isn't that "steal" enough?

He's a good solid central midfielder and winning the footballer of the year was impressive and he will be a useful squad player but if we sign him I presume he will be expecting to be in the first 11 most of the time.

If you consider that it looks likely that Jenas and Palacios will join O'Hara out the exit door Lidls, then the addition of Parker and even possibly an extra player there would be necessary.
He could probably form a decent partnership with Modric, Sandro or Huddlestone, with any two from the four being suitable to play together, so it's easy to see the attraction.
I wouldn't have thought that he'd break into our first XI when everybody's fit, but he'd improve the squad.

As for his skill level, I'd suggest that he offers more than somebody like Fletcher and is capable of performing a similar job.
He can play as a box-to-box player, he's comfortable in the holding role or even the harassing style that the Scot performs for you.

Yes, what we really need is another midfielder to join the 10 we already have! Bring back a DOF to give us some proper focus to our transfer requirements.

I have to agree with Luke Croatia. Is Parker really the direction we want to moving in? Wholehearted just doesn't cut it at the level we want to be at. He would not be picked in front of Huddleston, Sandro, Modric, VDV, Kranjcar or an in form Palacios. If all he is keeping out of the team is JJ and Bentley, surely that makes him a. surplus to requirements and b.Not where he wants to be at 31?
