Hull Jameson Street facelift: Workers to rip up steelwork they have only just laid

please log in to view this image

STEELWORK laid in Hull city centre as part of the £25m public realm facelift is to be dug up after it was found to be “defective”.

The sections of steel, currently clearly visible in Jameson Street, form part of foundation work for planned new paving.

They will now be removed and replaced over a two-to-three-week period. The work is expected to be carried out at night to avoid disruption to nearby shops.

In a statement, the council’s contractors Eurovia Contracting said: “Following a routine inspection of parts of the foundation works in Jameson Street, it has come to light that there is a defect with some of the reinforcing materials used.

City at fifth in the table I see:-

A study from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) analysed the fortunes of 74 UK cities with populations of more than 100,000, developing an index of relative decline based on changes in employment rates, levels of highly qualified workers, the number and type of full-time jobs, net migration rates and population change.

Rochdale, Burnley and Bolton topped the list of cities that have fared the worst compared with national trends, and Hull and Grimsby were at five and six. No city in the south of England featured in the top 24 of the index.

    Talking of 2020

Saturday 29th February 2020 is the next leap year. (5 Saturdays that month/year actually).

I wonder who and where Hull City will be playing that date ? Subject to tv of course.

probably why two guys were scrapping in the street with a bunch of these workers the other weekend , it went on for a good five mins and seemed to start when a worker in full gear leaped over a barrier to land a punch - shoddy

Are they planning on everything being a legacy rather than ready for the actual start of City of Culture? Lots of items seem to be delayed or pushed back.

The 'giant' music venue won't be built until after 2017. I think this is another error - venue is far too small, surely better to use an existing building seeing as we are so lacking in ambition by building such a small venue.
