To be honest stats are stats. Your links do not prove a lot to be honest. I think success is more measurable in European Cups.

I dunno - paying off their contracts only crystallises the loss a bit earlier. If you can get them to agree to end their contracts for a lower amount then that makes sense, but paying off the full amount could cost about £25-30 million just for those four! Actually Brown's worked out as pretty good value - he's only £50k a week and he's played around 20 games a season for us over the past three years filling in pretty well, although less effectively since his injury in late 08. He was also crucial in the double in 07/08. Obertan has been a bigger waste so far, although he seems to be doing ok in pre season which implies SAF may still have some faith in him. Your point about those 20 is, imo, one of the biggest reasons Liverpool have underachieved so much since 2006. People forget that the cost of a player isn't just the headline fee but the wages, agent costs and all the other malarkey. That's one of the reasons I'm quite glad SAF is taking some time looking for a new midfielder - buying the wrong man can end up as expensive as buying the right one, and can really screw the team over in the interim.
