Somehow I think we may need a "new" Referee for this one!

 

That's the best thing to come out of tonight. We have had some really crap decisions stitch us up recently.

Good **** off and let us have some proper competition.

 

Not concerned by that at all. If it happened we'd be in with a shout of troubling a trophy & the big clubs would just slim their way back in after a few seasons out anyway.

Last time I looked only 3 of those teams were actually in the top 5. Would be a shame if they left, we always manage to beat 2 or 3 of them every season. But the worst part would be that clubs like Tottenham and West Ham would then be our "biggest" clubs.

The TV money may follow though, which could affect us. Is there the interest though....I haven't watched the European matches since they left Sky and haven't missed them. Only the really well off in the UK could follow them live. I suppose they are going to rely on worldwide interest rather than their true fans.

 

Indeed it could. But I'm not going to worry, I know the strengths of the League structure in this country. The big four have delusions of grandeur especially when it comes to money, but I can't see it happening.

 

I wouldn't care if the TV money went to be honest, might feel more like footy again. I know that you obviously want your team to be the best it can be, but for me it's about more than that, it's about feeling part of something. That feeling lessens every year with all the money in the game now.

Seven years ago we were playing the likes of B'mouth in L1.

 

I can't see them really leaving the EPL....what a smack in the face for their fans. They may be trying to revive an issue that came up before....where the European matches become a closed shop, where only the teams sitting on chairs when the music stops are allowed to enter. So the 'big' clubs don't have to qualify, because it would be outrageous if ManU failed to qualify and some little team (let's call it Leicester, for the sake of argument) did.

 

Yeah and part of me enjoyed the matchday experience more in the lower leagues. Let me be clear I was only saying my age to make the point that I'm not of a certain age where I remember when money didn't rule quite so much. I've only ever lived in the PL/SKY era

 

Incredible amount of arrogance shown once more. Football for the posh & privileged. Miss the lower leagues at times like this.

 

I will very quickly start to lose interest in football I fear if that becomes reality.

Thinking about it I don't know why any of them would want to do it, I suppose it will be a no relegation scenario though so takes away the risk of not getting CL money.

 

All comes down to money. If they qualified every year, this wouldn't be an issue, but they invest so much money, that missing out for one season can cause them problems. It gives them a sense of entitlement. If they attempt to set up an exclusive European League, I would hope the rest of the EPL would boot them out....don't hold your breath though. I suspect each country would get one 'qualifier' just to keep them sweet....otherwise it is going to be a closed shop.

 

Exactly - they don't like the thought of teams like Leicester breaking through and threatening their CL ambitions, so rather than have the competition and you know, actually try and be sporting, they'd just rather a super league where they're guaranteed the equivalent money every year.
