It's been a bad weekend with us losing ground on the leaders and, some say, possibly losing out on the title altogether. I think it is still a bit early to totally dismiss our chances, but for sure it would take a series of epic performances to achieve winning this title. I hold on to one last, faintly glowing, glimmer of hope. Not because I think Wenger will weave a web of wonder but because I cannot believe the players will look at all the stick they are getting from supporters and respected pundits such as Dixon and Souness, telling them they are gutless, pitter patter artists with no bottle and react positively. Surely, I tell myself, pride can be manifested into performances worthy of champions. As his last act of man management, for surely it is time for him to move aside, Wenger should plaster the oak panelled walls of the home dressing room with magnified headlines that tell these players what the world thinks of them and engender a reaction that will allow the likes of Ramsey, Walcott and Giroud to prove they have the championship winning abilities to match those brought to the club by Cech, Ozil and Sanchez. Call me a fantasist, some I am sure will call me worse, but I still have a bit of belief that this season is not quite dead. At least until Wednesday, anyway.
If Wenger was to instill some semblance of pride in his players to get them to go on a 97/98-esque winning run then he'd then have to answer even more questions about why he couldn't have done that at any point in the preceding decade...
