http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-fc-must-buy-new-10963156 Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool should prioritise buying a new goalkeeper and left-back this summer – and has called for Jon Flanagan to be given an instant first-team recall. Anfield legend Carragher was hugely critical of both Alberto Moreno and Simon Mignolet following the Reds' Capital One Cup final defeat to Manchester City at Wembley. Mignolet, despite making a clutch of important saves, was badly at fault for Fernandinho's goal for City while Moreno, who was caught out in the build-up to the strike, was poor throughout and replaced during the second half. And Carragher, summarising for Sky Sports, believes the Spaniard should be immediately dropped in place of fit-again Flanagan – and then shipped out, along with Mignolet, at the end of the season. “The left-back has to come out of the team,” said the former Reds defender. “This is not a one-off today in terms of the goal. “(Jon) Flanagan has come back fit and has to go into the team in midweek, he (Klopp) has to change the left-back. “Flanagan played left-back when they nearly won the league. He can't be worse than him (Moreno).
http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spor...s/klopps-perfect-liverpool-fc-script-10963335 His Liverpool journey is just beginning, with many chapters yet to be written and acted out. A new cast may be assembled too one feels. “Do you think I can do wonders?” he said on his first day at Anfield. “No, then let me work.” Over to you, Jurgen.
reflections on yesterday now i've sobered up we weren't slaughtered which was a bit of a worry going into the game but we lack the killer instinct all over the pitch GK & defenders however well they play always have a cock up in them CM will always miss a tackle ,let a player run off them AM lack of precision in both passiing and shooting CF Studge just concerned with not getting injured before the Euros , Benteke now shot and will be gone in summer (even if club wants to keep him he'll want out) Origi raw but promising ,Ings willing but limited but the only one of them you would have much faith in finishing is Studge. We need to buy some quality but as importantly we need to get the players playing as a team and believing in what they are doing luckily next year is our year
Agree with Carra on Moreno, I've been saying for a while we need a genuine LB and Flanno is a better option right now. And Ming, to concede the first goal was crucial. That shot should not be finding the back of the net
Its harsh to criticise him on this game I feel. Yeah he should have saved that one, but he probably shouldn't have saved either of agueros efforts as 99/100 he scores them. However, based on the whole season, there have been too many mistakes which have lead to goals that you'd feel a top keeper wouldn't be conceding.
Hi y'all. Couldn't comment yesterday as I worked a split shift to watch the game, not finishing till 10pm. Anyway, no complaints - City were the best team over 90 mins. Thought we'd win the pens after they missed their first, but our next three were woeful! Can't win 'em all. We started off well (10 mins) and finished off bright (no choice), but let's not forget that our first shot on target was the goal. Negatives were Moreno (I once did that tackle he did that SHOULD have given away a pen, and our sports teacher literally kicked me up the arse - just pure idleness as he had plenty of time to turn and tackle properly. ****). Migs atoned himself, but you don't expect a top keeper to be beaten like that. That five year contract looks hasty. I won't do individual scores, but as a team I'd say 7. Always was a case that if their bestish 11 played our bestish 11 and they both played well that they'd shade it. I thought our front three, through no fault of their own, just saw little of the ball for over an hour. They bossed the midfield, of that there's no doubt. Origi was a big bonus for me. Still raw, but better than benteke any day, and Kolo put in a fine shift too. Pity about Sakho, but that's not the first time he's clashed heads with a teammate going for the same ball, is it? On the one hand it's good to have a defender who always attacks the ball and wins 90% and more of his challenges, but the downside is that he is pulled into situations that are 100% win/lose in that he's in no-man's land when it doesn't come off. BUT, you sense he has no confidence that any other team mates can win the ball. So, as I said, no complaints. The best team won, overall, and I'm both pleased and gutted that we showed enough fight to take it to extra time (where I was surprised that, for large periods, we were the better team - I thought we looked knackered @ the 70 minute mark and the game was all over), but sad that the wheel of fortune eventually got to us over penalty shoot outs. Well played City, worthy winners.
Exactly. I've been one of the few to defend Mig's at times on here and I do think he is a good keeper. But we need better and Klopp will realise this
Moreno should be yanked now and sold for sure, he's a brainless idiot of the highest order, have been able to see that all season Mignolet is unfortunately here for the season and beyond but no way is he a good enough first choice keeper. Alright he made some nice saves later in the game, but that error for their goal made the game totally different at that point and set us back massively, whereas obviously if he hadn't made it and had done what he is paid/trained to do properly the situation is different, game stays level, confidence isn't eroded. So to say he made up for it or redeemed himself with later saves is a big misnomer if you ask me And they're both doing this **** every game which is the other issue, it's not like this game was in isolation or one out of 10, it's every ****ing time they step on a football pitch, same **** different game, they don't learn
He needs proper competition. Since he's signed he's been number 1 with no one to step in if he plays ****. If get decent other option to compete then will bring out best of both of them.
Wouldn't mind award getting few games in league towards end of season. Not too much to play for and will give us a good indication as to where he is as a keeper and serve a reminder to Mig that he's not unstoppable.
He's a No. 2 keeper for a club with CL aspirations or already in that For a mid-table club he's yer No.1 which is where we are at We need to bring in a quality first choice, maybe that would improve our Belgian waffle with sprinkles, maybe not, personally I'm out, unconvinced by the flat nosed twat
I don't see it that way. I think we need a new No.1, but even if we keep Migs as a No.2 (which I wouldn't mind) I don't think the 'competition' would make Mig's a better keeper.
Look at the top 5 goalkeepers-wise Leicester - Schmeicel - do you ever see him drop the clangers like Ming, no. he's had a rock solid season and they're top. unheralded but showing his metal this season Tottenham - Lloris - class keeper Arsenal - Cech - class keeper City - Hart - class keeper / Caballero comes in for one game storms it, saves 3 (rather ****e) pens Utd - de Gea - class keeper - how many points has he saved for them and how often won games that they should not be winning Mignolet is a ****ing turdbucket in comparison to all those
Totally agree mate, he's had ample opportunity being the de-facto No. 1 to show even in dribs and drabs that he's got more about him but he never does
