We rode our luck away to Everton and really Coleman should have equalised from 3 yards at the death. We threw it away against West Brom by sitting deep then we've done exactly the same again today. If we did have a go and lost then it would have been disheartening but at least we gave it everything. From the 19th minute we invited them on us and made no changes at all even though it was obvious to everyone what was going to happen. Furious with that display and you can't fault the players as they are the ones suffering under such a restrictive formation and inadaptive management
I thought we'd lose and there's no shame in doing that against a better team that deserved to win but what worries me is why is it that if the likes of us can see that a change is necessary at least at half time if not before, an experienced manager doesn't implement that change until we go behind and with 3 minutes to go? I actually worry about the competence of this guy. Seriously.
Look, no one expected a win today and Tottenham are a excellent team this season. No excuses for the way we set up after our goal, too big of a task to sit deep for 70 mins. I may be in the minority but I feel that we have enough to beat the other teams arround us to survive. 2-1 at WHL isn't a terrible result in retrospect
I'm seething at the tactics/formation second half. I didn't feel this angry under Monk, which is very worrying. Get the Arsenal game out of the way then we MUST win our next two games.
We were absolutely tonked and deserved nothing. BUT what pisses me off is that we could have had something from that game. It's so frustrating. I expected nothing before the game but to score first and give me hope only to slap me round the face with the big wet kipper of inevitability is unforgivable. We were right in the game up until we scored and then had the lead as well! You know they're going to come at you full pelt so at least have a counter attack option. NO - hoof the ball back, every single time and let them have another go. Ayew should have been off for Barrow for the second half. Ayew was playing for himself today, not playing for team mates. Barrow and Paloschi on the last man at least gives you a ball over the top and lots of pace, keeps them wary. I expected to lose today but the manner in which we lost has me so worried. Bournemouth are a better side than us so we're scrapping it out with the rest now. Let's be honest, we're on a level with Norwich and Villa but probably not as good as Sunderland and Newcastle after the window.
I agree with you Swan and Only if we had tried to be more attacking and lost 4/5-1 it would have messed up our goal difference which wouldn't have helped at the end of the season.
I think nobody is upset/angry with the players, but we should have played Barrow and had Montero on the bench at the very least. Very defensive, very negative and very worrying. Of course, pick up 7 points from 9 after the Arsenal games and opinions might change. But Guidos formations and tactics do not fill me with the confidence that Curtis did.
Given that Italians are sound defensively you'd think he'd have sorted it out. Amat needs bringing into the team.
Overreaction Is an understatement on here today We are no worse off than we were yesterday as we have not gained ground but we have not lost any ground either.....Keep it real, We were expected to be thrashed today and to score the first goal is a bonus and we finally lose 2-1 against the form team. To overreact thinking our aged players can match the young team of spurs for 90 minutes was always going to be a non starter, We did our best and better than most people thought we would......As for Mr G then i have said from the day he was appointed that he wont be able to cope with premiership football and i stand by that, but that's not the man's fault it's Jenkins and our useless boards fault for appointing someone who is not good enough.....They have lost the plot. Never mind we are not relegated yet and still in a better position than some....
For me bringing in Bartley instead of Amat is what got Monk sacked. Bartley cost us a **** load of goals that I have every bit of confidence Amat would have dealt with easily. But then at the same time were not conceding in open play (1 goal in 6 games) so its hard to really justify leaving Fernandez out. Yes he's making mistakes but then so is everyone else. Fab cocked up today. Ash lost his man against Saints. Rangel failed to clear against West Brom (all resulting in a goal) and Taylor cocks up pretty much every game. To single one player in the defence as liable by dropping him (which is how the player/s would see it) is wrong imo and will potentially do more damage than good. The only way I see us coming out of this is if Guido grows himself a pair and gets us looking for a second goal.
It could have been a lot worse but only score wise. It was a terrible result in my view for the fact that we could not compete - at all. We looked completely out of our depth. Hoping that we'll survive relegation on goal difference is crazy. Guids had the chance today to implement some attacking style and give us some shape going forward. He could have also used the Arsenal game to further implement this. What message is he giving out by parking the bus (with the doors left open)? We're not advancing at all. Absolutely no confidence will be gained from that. I would have rather lost 5 - 1 trying to be proactive.
This right here is exactly our point. If it was so obvious that we weren't going to keep up with this young team, then why weren't changes made sooner? Can you not see this is what everyone is pissed off about?
Sorry for that chaps, I know we dominated the game but most Spurs fans are trained to believe we won't capitalise on those situations. Massive relief on our board. Best of luck for the rest of the season, I have faith you'll stay up, especially if you can compound the Goons' misery on Wednesday
I wouldn't drop Fed for Amat, I just think we are that poor at defending set pieces we need a system that has the three of them on the pitch. Amat at LB maybe?
Guids is supposed to be adept at three at the back isn't he? So why not try it today and at Arsenal. Get the team playing it ready for the important games. Mould something. We did nothing today.
