Even guys in there low 20's that need a van for work have prohibitive insurance costs, to the point some companies dont have apprentices or younger people any more , which is a very short sighted viewpoint!! This is a problem one of my lads has had to wrestle with he is 22!

I've had my licence for two years now, and haven't so much as turned a wheel in that time. I'll still get clobbered when I get a car because I have no insurance history, but the savings now over two years ago would still be decent. Which is stupid really. Surely I was a better driver the day I passed than I am now?

Ok H spent a couple of hours on me day off mooching around insurance sites, conclusion is ........ouch! If you want to be squeaky clean legal then its gonna be expensive, even went to the smaller specialist companies that deal with young drivers!

Aw hon, thanks so much! i think i've spent about 7 or 8 hours now going over all the options. Crazy..the highest quote? £17000 lmao! The lowest £3880! Suddenly that doesn't seem so bad, though it's mental! (and not what we're going with!)

One other thing I don't understand. What is wrong with "fronting"? (deliberately not explaining it, google if you're unsure).

If a parent is willing to risk dramatically increased premiums long term to ensure that their child does not have to choose between food and owning a car, what's wrong with that? Surely it should be down to insurance companies to factor that into their pricing?

Just over £100 a month and no doubt you pay a premium to pay monthly!

    okay, it's a 1.1 which would make a difference...and HA6..makes a difference...so that would probably be a better quote...17 and 7 months lol..but thanks so much hon!

I agree with you again NNW if the parent or relative is willing to take the hit ,if things go wrong , then whats wrong with that! Fronting is acceptable in so many other forms of business , why not this?

I agree with you BB - I would raise the lower age and introduce an upper age for driving - my Dad still drives and he is 88 and I have not felt safe in a car with him driving for years - the only reason he does not have accidents is he drives slowly so frustrates others and they no doubt then have the accidents.

Agree on the limits for older folk although not a blanket age ban , I would go the route of a bi annual medical ! after 65! if you pass you carry on if you fail your license is suspended until proved fit to drive again Fail 3 in a row then the license is revoked ! I also think if a young kid is responsible he shouldnt be penalised so badly with insurance costs , Do the advanced driving courses should give them bigger premium reductions than they do at the moment!
