I consider that claim to be a slight exaggeration, don't you? GJ got us promoted from the Third tier to the Second tier. In my lifetime, Pat Beasley, Fred Ford, Alan Dicks, Joe Jordan and John Ward have achieved that. So how is Johnson senior's achievement greater than any of these? AD also got us up to the First Division and Fred Ford missed doing the same in 1966 by an own goal and a 97th minute equaliser. None of the others have achieved sainthood so why the deification of Johnson?
GJ took us from a dire position in league 1 to one game away from the premiership in 3 seasons, that's why..With current financial situations of the clubs in our era, in MY opinion is an amazing feat..... In the days of the horse and cart of which you're referring to, I'm not sure circumstances were quite the same!
'Hope LJ gets praise' We shouldn't forget Pemberton in all this. Pemberton put round pegs in round holes and changed from 3-5-2 when SC left. LJ has done nothing other than carry on with Pemberton's changes. He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy.
It was inevitable that you would come out with that Redprintt, had we have lost 3 or 4.0 would you have blamed Pemberton or LJ? Now I wonder
I do wonder if it was all Pembleton's ideas after all why didn't he get Cotts to change it before. Surely being assistant manager he had some say in team and formation selections.
Exactly what i said when cotts was fired,Pemberton should have had input at the time, why did he not have a quite word at the time.Seems strange he changed it when he took over, perhaps cotts said we do it my way.
The only manager who got us promotion when horses still pulled the Georges Brewery wagons was Pat Beasley. Irrespective of that, it is never easy to get a team promoted because there are twenty three other clubs all doing their best to win it themselves. The question still stands. What makes GJ so different to any other manager who has got us out of Division Three?
He put together a team, with just average players, but playing as a TEAM, to within 90 minutes away from promotion to the premiership. Can't remember any other City manager coming so close to back to back promotions in 2 seasons, can you? NB. And I did say since AD.
Imagine, if we had won that game we could be the team yoyoing between the Prem and the Championship, rather than the Championship and L1.
