He has got to improve I agree, but I think he will. He always has done, even before he made the first team. The club nearly let him go at 15/16 but gave him something like 6 weeks to prove himself.

Playing in a better team that can (hopefully) control games and pass the ball well will also help him a lot.

With Green around he probably won't be starting so many games, but even then I expect he'll remind us all how useful he can be off the bench.

I'd take 400K. To my mind he's plateaud and unfortunately 'having a good engine' isn't enough in this league. He has very few tricks up his sleeve and tends to run down blind alleys. I know he's a Charlton lad and all that but that isn't a good enough reason to keep him. Green will be first choice right winger and I think a bid of around 300K would tempt Powell.

Some probably said similar things about John Robinson, but he ended up competing in the Prem. Did a much better job as well than many more typical wingers with more tricks and 'ability'.

Waggy needs to move upfront IMO. His abilities are better suited there.

But Robinson would have had much more of an impact in the third tier than Waggy had last season. Robinson also was a tenacious little bugger..and could cross a ball. Wagstaff's crosses are awful.

He's not good enough for the Championship, certainly not as a winger. He struggles to get past League 1 left backs and his crossing his poor.

Don't get me wrong, I love his effort and the fact that he has lungs of steel, but he would really struggle at Burnley if he did go, which I doubt.

I agree I`m a fan of waggy but cant see him cutting it in the champs at present..he needs to improve greatly to do that.
£400k is alot of money for waggy i`d be inclined to accept it if were true.

Robinson was hardly known for being a great crosser though. Was far more about his energy and work rate, something Waggy just as much of. He was a good all round player compared to a typical winger, which made up for his weaknesses. Robinson didn't play in the Prem until he was 26/27, he improved over the years did he not?

Wagstaff did struggle at times last season, but so did the team. He does need a good team around him, he's not the type of player that can do things on his own. In a good team I'm sure he will do well and keep improving.

Anyway it seems all this Burnley talk was complete rubbish (no surprise, I think it started on the Football Rumours site). On the OS Powell has recently said he really rates Waggy and wants to extend his contract.
