In England before 1875 and the setting of the age of consent at 16, there was no notion of childhood and young people were just viewed as "little adults". Before 1865 it was a ****ing free for all, you could marry a three year old and no-one would bat an eyelid. Obviously I'm not condoning any of this in any way, I'm just pointing out that only 4 or 5 generations ago, this **** was the norm. It's amazing how much the majority of us have changed for the better in 150 years.
