I said above that he is a brilliant barrister. This is where he earns his money. Analyses and picks holes. He's also now opened a potential future claim that he could take on himself.

I've never disagreed on the objective stuff mate, only how you deduced that your club come to the decision to lift his suspension. You know me mate, I'll not be tarring an entire club with the same brush, based on the mistake of one or two people in power. I won't be surprised if it's true, these are powerful people (football club owners, lawyers, etc) who think they can do as they please without repercussion. The fans shouldn't pay the price for that, I wouldn't even wish that on the scousers.

He started off by implicating the players with his 'age of consent' explanation. Now he's moved on to the club. For whatever reason, Johnson has tried to drag anybody down with him that he possibly can. Definitely my most hated footballer now.

Ridiculous really. Johnson now has a grudge against the players because they abandoned him, the club because they sacked him and his barrister is trying to drag others down with his client.

Yeah but 9 out of 10 people on here are seeing sense and not so quick to take a lying nonce on his word.

    His Brief has just said

OP has also said that SAFC may have had "commercial considerations" when deciding to continue playing Johnson. Adds Johnson should still not be blamed for their decision.

It's entirely AJ's fault we had to make any decision at all. The Club didn't ask for this, it's all on AJ 100%. Straw clutching or me fella. It's not even relevant to the case.

I'm sure the FA will be investigating If they feel we've done anything wrong.

Legally we've done nothing wrong. I think everybody is firmly agreed on that. It's morally where people are questioning, like me. That's all it is at the moment for me though, mate, questions to find out exactly what the club knew and I would like them to come out and explain themselves with regards to why he was allowed to continue playing (if he told them he'd messed about with the lass). I'll have more of a clear thought that way and I also feel the club have to come out with a statement, once he has been sentenced.

This sums him up for me, he's got a reputation in this city as a slimy little bastard (nowt as bad as kiddie fiddling mind) and he's obviously been dragged up by a pair of ****ing idiots as parents to have no respect for anything. There's numerous stories about him 'out on the town' in Manchester that I'm not saying on here, but I think Comm posted, a while back him stood in a club (probably not in Manchester) spitting at his own reflection in the mirror with his top off... It just sums him up completely, I'm probably guilty of jumping the gun with this case a bit but he seems remorseless and I hope the judge and jury take that into consideration.

Well, I'm sure the CP will be opening an investigation into the club of withholding evidence on a criminal court case. Because that's the accusation. A very very serious one. These are claims made by a lawyer for a client under oath. So we'll see.

At the moment. It's still a lying nonce making an accusation. I will continue to balance it with sensible logic until some real facts are on the table.

The defence have accused the 15-year-old of manipulating the truth on more than one occasion.

Mr Pownall said that the girl did not give a true account of her liaison with Johnson as she would have “faced derision” from her friends that it was only a kiss when she had boasted it was much more.

“Her reputation is something that matters a great deal to her,” Mr Pownall say.

Whether the schoolgirl’s friends believed her is “neither here nor there” Mr Pownall has said.

“[A friend] told you that she did not believe her about one of the sex acts,” he added.

Johnson’s defence barrister has told the jury that the police failed to investigate the case against Johnson properly.

“We suggest to you that this is no smoke screen, but the harsh reality that there were real failings in the investigation of this case,” he said.

Mr Pownall has questioned why police deemed the case “too sensitive” for house to house inquiries and why the police did not question Sunderland Football Club about what time Johnson arrived at the ground on January 30, the day of the alleged sexual encounter.

“You are being asked to make do with what they’ve got. It is for the Crown to prove its case, we suggest that they had spurned countless opportunities to prepare you,” he said.

Mr Pownall said there are a number of holes in the prosecution’s case and warned the jury not to make assumptions.

Johnson’s defence barrister has criticised the prosecution for asking the jury to “cut some slack” for the 15-year-old girl who the defence say has lied.

Mr Pownall said: “I am not asking you to cut Adam Johnson some slack.

“Don’t think for one minute that a 15-year-old girl with the personality you have seen is some silly person.”

Adam Johnson was not entirely truthful with police in his interview because he panicked, his defence barrister told the jury in his closing speech.

“Look through his eyes, he panicked that moment at the police station having been arrested in front of his girlfriend,” Mr Pownall said.

“The defendant panicked, his whole world was turned upside down at that police station.

“He must have realised it would lead to the end of his career, public humiliation and the end of his relationship with his girlfriend.”

'Sunderland knew exactly what was going on'
Johnson’s defence barrister has rubbished claims that the 28-year-old player had delayed guilty pleas so he could continue to earn money.

“It’s plain Sunderland Football Club knew exactly what was going on, they choose for what ever reason, rightly or wrongly, whether for commercial considerations or in the knowledge they were facing relegation, they allowed him to play. It might be in hindsight they regret that decision,” Mr Pownall said.

    Byrne has got to go

It's worth pointing out here that the meeting took place on the 4th of May, his suspension was lifted in March.

So for everybody saying he was reinstated to save Sunderland whilst they knew he was guilty, that only applies to the last 4 games of the season.

It's sick that Byrne let him continue to play and more importantly interact with minors. You lads seem quite rightly pissed off at the bitch.

I think I read somewhere along the lines over the past two weeks that he wasn't allowed near the kids at the club.

Just another mag desperate to try and get a low blow in. Even if it means making stuff up to suit their agenda.

Why? Because a lying nonce has made an allegation? Why don't we just wait for the facts eh?

Johnsons barrister is doing everything he can to lighten the load. That`s all.

He`s very good at it hence the reason he`s right at the top of the pile.

Well he has signed a sex offenders register(did first day of the trial). He definitely won't have been allowed near of the kids mate. Could be a plausible reason why he stayed with the seniors after his suspension was lifted.

From the mouth of his own barrister, looks pretty factual to me
