'George Formby impersonators Arctic Monkeys' **** off Chazz. You missed out Pulp anarl. Past meetings:
Most of the Arctic Monkey's songs sound like they are about drinking white lightning in the park, fingering birds on the top deck of a bus, dropping the fruit machine in a council estate pub, smoking L&M cigs and driving a Vauxhall Nova. I'm glad they've faded away, I found them ****ing irritating. "Oh mayte you're reet well done, pop ova t'estate and 'sing' in a Yerkshire accent." Shut the **** up and speak properly you daft bastards.
Bravo Chazz. Glad you're taking this **** seriously. Finally. They've been on a bit of a resurgence, but, we are the Mighty Tigers. Even ****ing Arsenal couldn't score against our B team. Would like to see Powell start, and sadly for me, Elmo has to be on the bench. Other than that, the expected players to start. Regulation 4-0. You Ull.
Can tell you've not heard a song by them since 2006 if that first sentence is anything to go buy. Or that you've ever actually listened to one of their songs. "I'm glad they faded away" Their last album was their most successful globally, and is arguably the best album of the 2010s, it broke them into America, fading away is the thing they've definitely not done. Aren't you a fan of Oasis too? Which, honestly, is quite ironic reading that post because Oasis could be given exactly the same description, just change the accent and stereotyping. I'm fine with you not liking them, but your reasoning makes no sense as it isn't true. Wouldn't go that far personally. Kid A by Radiohead. Though WPSIATWIN is definitely top 10. I personally prefer Humbug.
I'll admit, their first album sounds a bit juvenile but that's probably because they were in their late teens/early twenties. Humbug is one of my favourite albums ever and it's better than anything Oasis have ever produced. And they've not faded away. AM was released in 2013 and sold over 150k copies in its first week. They've taken a break cause Turner's doing another album with Miles Kane.
I might be being unfair and a bit hipster, but they were so over played at my uni that they just grated on me, I liked them at first. I was always more into metal, rock, punk and thrash, so maybe that's got something to do with it.
Yes! Another Humbug fan, it's my fave AM album anarl. Love the more psychedelic route they took for that one. As much as I love Definitely Maybe and (What's the Story) Morning Glory, I do personally prefer Humbug. I've grown away from Oasis, they used to be my faves a few years ago, about the time I got into stuff like Radiohead, Pixies, Sonic Youth, The Smiths and the more experimental Bowie stuff. I still love them like, and also love Noel Gallagher's solo stuff. Beady Eye was ****e though. That's fair.
Depends on what era you were a late teen or early 20s. For me you've got to go a long way to get any better than Definitely Maybe or (What's the Story) Morning Glory? Not knocking the Arctic Monkey's because they're not bad. But for me Oasis are miles better - They were anthems when I was at Uni. I also saw them live at Knebworth, which was an unbelievable experience.
I'll concede that Oasis were a good band but I dunno, they're reminded me of a Beatles impersonation that just falls short. I don't like Britpop at all, full stop, so maybe that's it. Humbug is just brilliant. It's hard to pick a favourite song, they're all good. My Propeller, Crying Lightning, Dangerous Animals, Pretty Visitor etc etc. are all class.
It probably is an 'I was there' thing. For my generation, Arctic Monkeys are that Oasis equivalent. I still love Oasis, but when I got into stuff like Radiohead, The Smiths and Sonic Youth as said above, I found it hard to listen to them as much as before. The best one was one you didn't say, Dance Little Liar.
