Not necessarily, think i'm going to have to disagree with this Bod. You can be right on certain policies and left on others. Bigger taxes doesn't necessarily bring more money in (long term wise). There is always a happy medium.

Maybe i would prefer spending more on hospitals and education and want to cut down on all those quangos that Labour introduced under Tony Blair. Is that left wing thinking or right wing? I would say thats both.

Likewise, being left wing on things like education and health, does not necessarily equate to increasing spending. I think we need to make hospitals more efficient (of course its harder than it sounds) but doing away with things like treatment of depression by letting people get lyposuction or breast enhancement or giving every women the right to £3,000 worth of spending on their pregnancy treatment or having the awfully bloated middle management we could do with for a start.

True; what it didn't do though was stop crime, though in those days people had more respect for the law. My dad was caught smoking when he was five and a bizzy made him eat the cigarette. When my granddad found out he got a 'bloody good hiding'! <laugh>

Many years ago i was dealing with some youth who was on a course run by NACRO (National Assosciation for Care & Rehabilitation of Offenders) who was quite peeved as the course was being ended ,due to funding issues , and he had only been on it a short time. They had been clearing.improving a large area of open land near the town centre and as he explained it was great for people like him
"i know i'm not that bright ,got no qualifications so no point in sending me on a course to work a bleeding computer or such but this waas great because i could learn basic joinery making benches and tarmacing laying new paths and general ground maintenance" . Turned out he could also move onto their decorating scheme for old folk.As he said i could then get a job as a general labourer for various employers etc and if i'm working i won't be getting in trouble. He had been desperate to get on the project as he had mates who had been on it and though quite a few of the instructors were quite strict (Mainly retired tradesmen) they had thought it well worth it.
Have to say the funding for the works NACRO were carrying out were well worth it if only for the vast improvement in the area never mind the effect it had on quite a number of people who would previously been considered bad uns.

The right scheme/project can have very positive results and as there was a waiting list most participants behaved pretty well

Why so serious? If you look back across the history of my time on here, I'm not averse to intellectual debate. On occasion.

  10. I got a 'bloody good hiding' as kid whenever I did anything wrong too. I know people disagree with it now and I also agree there are limits but they're is nothing wrong with stiff punishment for certain circumstances.

I don't think that's necessarily true. Society as we know it might be destroyed but people will live on if they're not directly on the blast zone.

Animals live in Chernobyl despite the high radiation. Not a healthy environment and many would die, but some would live.

Tell that to every Labour government this country has ever had.
They all increased spending, the key was whether they spent it responsibly.
The last Labour government did for the first 4 years, then it spun out of control.

Left Wingers, Liberals, and Socialists, generally want to improve services, and they usually do it by spending.
You can argue that you can cost cut and make things more efficient, but then you are **** hair away from Austerity, and how do you find that balance?
The problem is thus....far too many rich people do not pay their fair percentage of tax, meaning the country suffers.
The Tories want to fix that by cutting benefits to those who deserve them and those who dont alike.
As well as cutting spending on a lot of public services so generally the average joe foots the bill and suffers for it.
Labour want to fix it by taxing the rich more....and spending more to improve public services.

    They go hand in hand.
Spending £3000 of NHS money on breast augmentation surgery isnt left Wing, its ******!

What you basically have is someone saying, "I cant live anymore unless I get a new £3000 set of boobs" to which I would say "and?"
Obviously there are certain circumstances in which there will be exceptions, but generally the last Labour government let too many people get away with ripping off the tax payer.
Where as our current Tory government have no interest in running any sort of government and are in this job to find a way to make more money for themselves and their toff friends by giving favours in terms of tax cuts and many other things.....

I dont know what to do in the next election, because I cannot bring myself to vote for these Tory ****s, they are repugnant.
Yet I trust Corbyn about as a far as I can throw him, really upset he won the Labour leadership, he wants to withdraw from NATO and print money  peoples quantative easing.....I dont see it working.......but if push comes to shove I will vote for him over any and all governments that have Cameron and George Osbourne in them.

the one that always got me was when when you got lost for example and when you were reunited your mum would be really worried and desperately check you were ok then when satisfied promptly shout "don't ever do that again" and give you a walloping
or was that just my mum <laugh>

she still hasn't forgiven me getting lost on holiday when i was about 6 and i ended being taken in a police car to the police station and we drove past the family and my brother saw me and shouted he is in that police car but oi saw him pointing so ducked as i was having too much fun as i had already got the cops to put the lights and bells on. when reunited got a right thrashing but it was worth it <laugh>
even cops are useful occasionally <yikes>

See it advertised on Comedy Central all the time, but I dont tend to watch a lot of TV in the evening.
I bequeath the TV to the missus to watch her bullshit (Corrie, Eastenders, How I Survived Evil, Call the Midwife, Birds of a Feather) and I watch my stuff on the PC that I have downloaded.
