Crikey - no wonder she chose rapping over singing. Takes a lot to limbo under Gaga's woeful tribute, but well done Lordes. :emoticon-0137-clapp

Because he played a dithering, annoying twat and he was the centrepiece of the vile sack of 'musical' ****e that is 'Grandad'. For that alone, he should be taken out and shot at dawn <ok>

Much respect. My Dad was a Royal Marine in the Far East at the back-end of it. He never really talked about it either, but I do know he killed a Jap from behind with a knife. At least your Dad never witnessed your Ma slipping away into mental oblivion.

Watched Legend, slightly disappointed. Not much of a story line, more of 'this is what Reggie and Ronnie were like' and here are a bunch of scenes to demonstrate it.
    6/10 at best.

It does make me laugh when people say youngsters today need national service and a "good war" to sort them out. Mostly from a generation of people that had nothing to do with WWII and at the same time implying that the war was a good thing for the people involved.

Been over 60 years since we've had a real war where our country was directly threatened. Most people in power haven't experienced it and neither have their parents. It worries me that as mankind's memories of total war during WWII fades the chance of it starting again because we're unfamiliar with the horrors increases.

The next big war will be very messy.

  18. I understand what you're saying but you can't underestimate community spirit. People that lived through national service and/or the war (not sure when NS stopped) were taught respect. That was passed down through their families and communities knew how to act. Time see's things get diluted.

So people of your generation may not have experienced WWII or National Service but your parents did and they passed the principals of respect, hard working, etc down to you (their kids). That as now been lost.

I left school almost twenty years ago now but I can tell you there was no respect for authority when I was there and its only got worse since.

I think the quote "those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it" is pretty accurate. The thing that bothers me the most is that the people in power have the resources and equipment necessary to pretty much wipe a smaller country off the map. It is frightening to think someone could decide that they don't want your country to exist any more and wipe it off the map.

The only lack of predictability there is that it was you and not the other ****er - you know who I mean.
