Just heard the news that Callum McNish has signed for Exeter City on a free. I didn't realise we'd released him, thought he was a fairly decent prospect at the club?!

He seemed alright but no way he would have broken through the first team this year. Good luck to him :)

There seems to be a lot of these quality youngsters getting away, we've lost Gillet, Mills, Thompson, McLaggon and White to name but a few as well

He was always a promising youngster, i remember Pardew taking him to Switzerland so obviosuly thought highgly of him

I wish him luck in the future but cant help but think it's another youngster thats slipped through the net

I'm a little confused by the use of "quality youngsters".

Jamie White is now working in River Island or Top Shop.
Jake Thomson struggled to get a game at Exeter last year.
Kanye McLaggon had a reasonable season at Salisbury City.

The only two out of those mentioned which are decent players are Mills and Gillet. We have currently better players in the team hence they have moved on the other purely didn't make the grade.

You take a risk on releasing any player but for every Gary Monk or Scott McDonald there's a Mark Peters or Kevin Gibbons.

Jamie White was playing for Totton recently, he had a very promising career until he broke his leg
Jake Thompson has been capped twice for his country, Trinidad and Tobago
Kayne McLaggon had a great season at Salisbury City hence the reason he has been recently signed by Bristol Rovers

Well with the new 5 sub rule, he wouldn't have even kicked a ball this season for us - and that's not exactly fair on the lad. Good luck to him at Exeter, hopefully he can get some regular football under his belt.

That said, I don't think we'll ever end up regretting letting him go. Of all our youngsters to date, Matt Mills was the only one who "got away".

White, Thompson, McLaggon and Gillet would never had made the first team, so it's a good thing they were let go and can now play regularly at lower teams.

I think McLaggon was on the brink of breaking into the first team when he done his Achilles in at the end of the 08/09 season.

Yes, but the first team he was trying to break into wasn't great.

So those are the kind of players we're looking at to move us on to the premier league is it? A southern league premier and conference side and a player who played 15 games in league 1 last year! His two caps for Trinidad? Both well over a year ago.
We're right to let them go, they clearly don't cut the mustard.

All of them were near to breaking into the first team - and when I use the term 'quality' I meant in terms of youth player quality not first team quality.

Didn't Thomson win those caps when he was still with us? I'm not debating they might be decent players in their own right, I was simply saying these player weren't up to the standard of our first team squad and were let go with good reason. I don't think we'll live to regret it as we have done with notable others.

I rate Isgrove and a few others in the current youth set up, but to be honest I don't think he'll ever make the first team. He looks good at youth level but I don't think he's good enough for the standard of football we currently find ourselves in.

I think the point has been lost, I was simply saying none of the mentioned players have been a lose to the team.

McLaggon had half a season for salisbury, he was constantly injured.
