Yes, Barbara Castle made the promise. Hull was that important they were frightened the large crowd at City could influence the outcome in Hull when they clashed with polling day.
Though it's sited in East Yorkshire, it's actually the responsibility of four different councils and the board comprises: Councillor Sean Chayter - Hull City Council Councillor Stephen Parnaby - East Riding of Yorkshire Council Councillor Baroness Liz Redfern - North Lincolnshire Council Councillor Matthew Patrick - North East Lincolnshire Council Lord Christopher Haskins - Local Enterprise Group Stephen Martin - Clugston Group
Yes Chazz and they charge about £2 for the exhibition, £2 for the special walkway and £20 for the tour. And they have lights on it!

They must have thought about other income streams but decided that the traffic across would be large enough on it's own.
You can all **** the **** off with your lit up ****ing bridges and buildings, there's enough light pollution around the Humber already - we need less, not more.
Dogging indeed, you cheeky young **** you ..... amateur astronomer, no dogging my side of the bridge Chazzster
The lift that goes up to the top now (inside the tower) should only be entered with more than one person if you are with a very close friend! You squeeze in with them and it's so tight you need to decide whether your going to be face to face or cock to arse or arse to arse before you get in because there's no turning round once you're in it. I chose to face to face, and then spent the slow journey with our noses nearly touching in an uncomfortable silence...
A few of the contractors working on the bridge lodged in my local, some of the tales about going up in the lift were hilarious - garlic breath, stale beer smells and gaseous emissions were only the half of it!
So Chazz would have to go up on his own? The best view of the bridge is from the back seat of an F3. Imagining you're bombing the south bank. Yes, even though it's not a bomber.
