A lot of people in the East Riding are not snobs Castro many are just workers who live in council houses and until recently prefabs, what you do have though is a selection of up market houses that Hull just cannot offer and for those that aspire to the better things in life, like housing and the such, the East Riding offers it. Kingswood offers some very nice housing but its the wrong place for a lot of people especially the west side of the river, so you are left with Boothferry, Anlaby Park Road, Priory Road, Spring Bank, Willerby Road, Hessle High Road, and all the places of equal standing both east and north of the City. A lot of Hull's former fine housing was the areas of the Avenues and even Coltman St, inner city if you like, so there is nothing on offer in the million pound and in some case plus for people who can afford those type of prices. But for the majority of us its knuckle down to a lifetime of mortgages for housing in the lower priced bracket, if you can get one. But in a way it mirrors football, those teams with the most money get the best players like those who can afford crazy priced housing get the best areas, I can't see Hudds and company living down Willerby Rd nice as some of those houses are.
I don't know any of the details, I just understand it was being discussed, though as far as I'm aware it was specifically for CoC2017.
Same reason someone on here goes on about people living in the East Riding but having the nerve to work in Hull or use facilities in Hull or even support Hull City. But of course you are very selective on what you criticise, moderate or close threads on.
I live in East Riding, c'mon ref. It was just a gentle dig at someone on here who has a go at people who live in East Riding and have the nerve to come in to Hull and use its facilities (whilst spending money whilst doing so).
Makes you wonder why they didn't. Though to be fair other similar bridges which have been built didn't do so either. Times change.
That's why you have to be forward thinking I guess. Maybe if it hadn't been done much it may have been considered a risky investment, though considering how much the bridge cost anyway...
There was something on the Box last week about dog muck. One of the councils in this country ( cant remember which ) was trialing a system from USA where you have to have your dogs DNA taken. Then if mess is found they test it and can link it to your dog thus landing them with a hefty fine. Magnificent idea.!!!
As a responsible dog owner I,quite agree. However how they will enforce it with groups of people they seem afraid to enforce rules and regulations of like "travellers" (many of who don't seem to do much travelling).
People from the ER can GTF, it specifically states, quite clearly, that it's for tourists. Unless you live in North Ferriby & are on your annual week long holiday at Trailer Park in Withernsea, then you're a tourist & it's for you.
In the same way the City Of Culture is all about attracting visitors to bring money into the city, at least according to the grandly title Portfolio Holder For Visitor Destination (was that a tourism officer in the old days?) so Hull folk can get to the back of the queue for any events that actually go ahead on schedule?
I agree it should have been done when it was built. I have visited the Akashi Straight suspension bridge near Kobe, Japan, opened in 1998, now the longest, and on the north end there was an Exhibition hall/information Centre, a dedicated walkway with a glass bottom and an elevator taking you to the top of the tower. The place was full of visitors and conducted tours were so popular at this attraction you had to book in advance.
So basically you're saying the ER have had since 98 to copy that and have done **** all. When oh when will the dummies in ER vote those idiots out...
Thing is we were lucky to get the bridge at all, it was a bribe to the voters of Hull to elect a Labour MP or else old Harold would not have a majority in parliament. Ironic to think then that it was built in the ER who, as far as I can remember, have always had a Conservative MP.
