I've just been looking at some of the empty units down Whitefriargate and the rents have fallen a bit now, but the rates are utterly ridiculous. There's a 1,700 sq ft shop down there, currently being marketed at £40k per annum, but with rates payable of £47k, which is what I paid for my shop in London W1.
Jesus, that's steep! When I rented Bogus on Prinny Ave, in the early 70's, the rent was £12.50 a week... It was the equiv of paying another person to work for you.
