Only reason she's still with him mate. Most women after this would find him a repulsive untouchable sick ****. Imagine if he didn't have the money or football career and was a Jeremy Kyle case, would she still be around, would he even have pulled that in the first place ?? ... sexual politics is ****ed

Yup..and very lucky..age of consent at time was 17 for girls in NI.

But at the time things were dealt with less officially here...kept in family etc and her mum had been married very young and had kids immediately so saw little wrong with it or at least didn't see it as a sexual offence. So never going to be the person to equip her daughter enough to NOT do it.

The girl knew what to do..but was not wise enough to pick her partner or have the self confidence to insure her own physical wellbeing.

She's grand now..later got married to a decent bloke etc and I'm sure she doesn't regret having her child but .....

Guy got another 17 year old pregnant a couple of years later..would have made him 21?

Thankfully more hell would be raised these days so maybe the second one wouldn't have happened even though it was technically legal...

I don't know many 21 year olds with their heads fully together. <laugh> Most people don't start acting adult until about 23/25 anyway.

I'm not saying 15 should be legal. It obviously shouldn't. But there is a massive gulf between a 12 year old and a 15 year old in understanding of actions. Even huger one down to 5.

A 5 year old has no clue about that sort of thing. A 12 year old thinks they know what goes on but doesn't.. A 15 year old knows what's going on but lacks the maturity to make an informed consent.

I have a 12 year old and I know 15 year olds. There is a big gap.

I think we all agree it's wrong regardless of the age... But I think between ages 12 and 23 kids transition slowly between all child and all adult. By about 18/19 they're more adult than child. (technically we don't reach full maturity until 25... The age when cell death starts to eclipse cell growth in humans).

I think there needs to be a graduated scale of punnishment.

He shouldn't have been playing while under investigation; Sunderland should have suspended him. For that reason, his goal against us shouldn't stand.

I say this because I'm annoyed we drew.

    You're right.

Lock AJ away for life... And after that give him the death penalty.

Actually... I predict at some point in the future when we can reanimate dead bodies Texas will do this. When someone is found guilty of multiple capital punishment crimes they will execute them... Ressurect them again so they can execute them again. The idea has Texas written all over it.

I can only echo the point made by Frank aand RedLad who've basically said what I would have in response to what you've just [posted.

Nevertheless it still doesn't address your original post that somehow a *****phile is worse, when the only real difference between a *****phile and a child sex offender isn't the age of the victime, but whether she has entered puberty or not. With the greatest respect, why the hell should an offence against my daughter be considered any less serious just because the perperptrator isn't technically a *****phile simply because she's entered puberty. Anyone who has an underage daughter would like to think that society considers an offender who has sex with a minor equally abhorrent regardless of whether their daughter is pre-pubescent or not.

It's a very emotive subject I know so I'll leave it there, we may just agree to disagree on this one.

To be honest, puberty doesn't reflect mental preparedness and isn't the main issue. The maturity of the mind is more a problem than maturity of the body.

A 5 year old is going to get more long term mental trauma from the incident than an older teen would (that might get a thrill out of it even if she isn't of mature mind to give legal consent).

In the AJ case. The girl is going to have more long term trauma from the trial/press than she is from banging a footballer.

Another salient point to make is that if you were to dress Johnson in tails and a top hat he'd be a dead-ringer for the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. In fact, I bet he lured this poor girl to his car with promises of ice-cream and treacle tarts.

****ing hell, have you heard the evidence in court today? Where is his defence going? His own barrister seems to be setting him up for evisceration by the prosecution. What sort of miracle is he after? Does he think he's a United player at an 'independent' FA hearing?

He let it go to trial so he could get £60k a week for another year. If he had pleaded guilty straight away he would have been sacked and jailed. He has made an extra £2.5m by pleading not guilty.

Today's evidence if true doesn't put Sunderland in a good light. He states he told them the detail (what he has so far pleaded guilty to anyway) straight after he was arrested.

Seriously..usually innocent before found guilty is the norm and would straight jacket the club from sacking him but if he did indeed tell them what he claims surely their lawyers would have advised that they could sack him straight away because there was no way he was walking away Scott free. Instead they let him continue to play! Awful since it was a minor who attended matches who had initial contact at their ground.
