I would have went with "Haw ****! Whit the **** dae ye think yer dain!" and then seen how it developed from there.

In fact, that's what I do in almost all situations.

The great "gloves on a train" incident wouldn't have ruffled my implacable calm in the slightest. I'd have given the guy a bit of a look (one of withering contempt) and placed the gloves gently on his lap, with the words "thanks, but I don't take gifts from strangers. Especially strangers on trains".

I'd have never fallen asleep in the first place. But if some random prick threw a glove at me because he/she assumed they were mine I would've said.

I took my headphones off and threw the gloves at him, and uttered words to the effect "what are you playing at ya ****ing clown, those are not my ****ing gloves". He responded warily (and somewhat stupidly) "I didn't want to wake you up", I retorted "then why are you throwing ****ing gloves at me you ****ing idiot". He had no response and went to another seat, fortunately for him as I did consider lamping him right on the jaw.
