Morning all, normally at this time I would be suffering in my French class, but it is school holidays in these parts, so we have a break from it. My seed order arrived yesterday so I can continue with my plans for the growing year. Decided to try and grow rhubarb from seed as English ones have a lot more flavour than the locally available crowns. Get enough plants going and I will have a number of friends calling to collect some for their gardens.
The rhubarb down our way doesn't like being forced...it prefers to go its own way. As it's such a free spirit we turn some of into rhubarb vodka...
Morning all from a chilly West West London - just a thin layer of frost to scrape off this morning. But it looks like it's going to be a crisp and bright morning.
Morning all, grey and bit damp here currently, but sun forecast for this afternoon. Last night as a bolt from the blue I had an e-mail to say that one of my longest friends had died suddenly. We had been friends since we were a couple of seven year olds and had kept in contact through the years. When we were around ten years old we would get tickets for the Vic free so that we could go and shake charity collecting tins under the noses of the fans sitting in the old Shrodells wooden stand, or the main stand. The passion for WFC never left us, so much so that when I was at his house on a Saturday afternoon in Denby Dale 18 months ago, the pair of us sat and listened to Jon Marks giving one of his excellent commentaries via my laptop, probably boring everyone else to distraction. It is good to think back about the fun we had together through the teenage years, but today my sadness has to be channeled into offering any small support I can offer to his wife and children. Sad times that we have to live through, but I have had my fair share this year and would rather not have any more.
