Speaking to the official QPR website, defender Grant Hall has explained what the Rs players will be doing for the rest of the season, with their hopes of winning promotion all-but over.
Hall said: “New players joined us in January and a lot of people here have got a point to prove ahead of next season – you want to be in that starting XI. That’s what everyone will be aiming to do during the remainder of this season, doing all they can to make sure they are in the plans for next year.”
Hasselbaink has only been in charge for a few months, and it was always going to be a task to improve QPR enough to get into the upper reaches of the Championship table.

They were never realistically challenging for promotion to the Premier League, and having lost Charlie Austin in January, they have written off any final hopes of a top six finish - with them currently sitting in 12th place.

As their season is over, Hasselbaink can start preparing for next year, building and trying things out so the club face the best chance of winning promotion next season.
He can start to integrate his January signings into the first-team, and test out lesser used players to assess whether they will have a future at Loftus Road.

For Hall, he has admitted that all the players are focused on impressing Hasselbaink over the remaining months of the season, as they try to convince the head coach that they are deserving of a place in his squad next term.

Hasselbaink has proven that he has enough talent as a coach to lead QPR out of the second tier, and these remaining months of the season could be vital in his preparations to give the Rs the best chance of winning promotion next year.

why have they not tried impressing him for the last couple of months

That's all very good but once in the starting eleven they need to continue to impress too. When was the last time we had a consistently good team?
