Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink wants to change Queens Park Rangers' mentality John Verrall @JohnVerrall Published now Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has told West London Sport that he is attempting to change the mentality at Queens Park Rangers. please log in to view this image The R’s have been starved of success over the last two seasons, and Hasselbaink is looking to implement a change on both the players’ and supporters’ mentality. So far the Dutchman has won just two of his first 13 matches, but he insists that he is starting to lay the foundations to be successful in the future. Hasselbaink feels that Rangers have made progress under his stewardship so far, but insists that there is no overnight fix to their problems. “We want to improve match after match and put our foundations down for the way we want to be – the way we need to be,” the former Burton Albion boss said. Our mentality, the mentality at the club, the change at the club – we are already starting with that. That is what needs to stream through from the players to the fans. “It’s not going to be there in one week or in two. There’s a lot to be done.” QPR[/a]’s most recent match finished as a 1-1 draw against Bolton Wanderers, with the London club fighting back in the last minute to claim a point. Matt Phillips scored the injury-time equaliser, but the result has not appeased QPR supporters’ concerns entirely. Rangers have performed well below expectations so far this term and they are currently occupying a mid-table spot in the Championship table. Hasselbaink’s side are 13 points back from the play-off spots and they appear to be preparing for another season in the second tier next year.
Too early to judge the fellow. This reads to me as 'cut me some slack and give me the patience to turn this around'. Transformational change takes an absolute minimum of 8 weeks to be fully embedded and far longer to be truly sustainable. Look no gutter than the likes of Southamptpn who have proven that it's a long game.
In our case it will mean implanting some of the players balls & a little testosterone which appears completely lacking in some.
The mentality issue is a big thing for me, and have been for some time. Very happy for Hasselbaink to put it on the agenda as we won't get anywhere unless it is addressed. I asked this question before the the Fulham match on the match day thread: "Can't wait for this game to kick off. Hopefully we should get some answers of how strong we are mentally now going into a London derby. We have been absolutely shocking for two/three years. The last time we can say to have been consistently competitive in London derbys was our first season back in the Premier League. If the players/team can show the right commitment in a derby I think we have come a long way from the Redknapp days." Well, I got my question answered that's for sure! Just not the way I had hoped. I won't happen by the flick of a switch or overnight. It will take time to implement it and it won't help by chopping and changing management all the time.
I am very neutral on JFH at the moment. My position is not based on results which haven't been great at all but on the amount of time he has had. I think we should all give him till the end of the season at least before calling for his head.
Me and my size 11 boots are available for free arse kicking sessions after training. Maybe each player and the coaching/managerial team should take part in a "spend a day with a fan" scheme" whereby players/coaches spend 24 hours with fans and seeing what it is like to live in the real world and how hard most work and how many struggle to scrape the money together for a season ticket. Probably be water off a ducks back to them - but it might make a difference.
some rather blunt comments on Rangers performance at Bolton on another forum. Depressing reading, I'm hoping Jimmy can turn these turgid displays around, but are his tactics the reason for them
Looking back to Warnock's four games in charge I think I did indeed see an overnight fix. I know that something long-term and sustainable is required by I just don't see any inspiration coming from the coaching staff at present why is a big worry.
I'm neutral also but clearly going through 2-3 managers a year is not sustainable & gives us no chance of stability. CR was a big mistake that should never of happened & we've overlooked better more experienced managers in the hope of hitting it lucky so whilst results/performance aren't great I don't think there's any choice but to stick with JFH for a minimum of the rest of this season & potentially longer & it's then up to him to justify his position by improvements on/off the pitch.
I have put ramseys tenure to the deep dark recesses at the back of my mind but how were the results of ramseys first 14 games compared to jfhs
Try these which assume are accurate overall both are dire CR's win ratio overall is better than JFH but losing ratio is worse & both averaging around 1 point per game. http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/clubs/managers/profile.overview.html/chris-ramsey http://www.managerstats.co.uk/clubs/queens-park-rangers/ NW looks by far the best in more recent times.
