It was a cup game, pre match Steve Bruce was whinging about replays and saying we should get rid of them. He then sets up a B team to park 10 men behind the ball and play for the draw.

I can't help but feel Bruce hd thrown the towel in today and played to lose, expecting us to get a walloping and hoping that parking every man in our box would help keep the score respectable, but a combination of an excellent defensive display and poor Arsenal finishing ****ed up Bruce's devious plan.

    It just doesn't add up.

Is it the replays BT have first choice of or all?
I thought BBC had first choice? I would have thought if BT had first choice they'd have grabbed Man City & Chelski!

BT had the first choice replay last round. So if only one game went to replay, BBC won't have anything to show (although I believe they can carry it over and show two replays next time).

BBC have first (and fourth) choice of the proper rounds. BT have second and third (and fifth in the earlier rounds).

Interestingly, I believe there's a rule where both teams could agree to play an extra half hour (agreement made before the match) (but should it remain a draw after that, then a replay occurs (no penalty shoot out)).

    So we could have:

1st match: 90 minutes, 30 minutes extra time (but no penalty shootout.)
2nd match: 90 minutes, 30 minutes of extra time, penalty shootout.

The 30 minutes extra time in the first match is optional.

    10. DURATION OF MATCHES (a) The duration of each match shall be 90 minutes, except in special cases, provided for in these Competition Rules, where an extra 30 minutes shall be played. The Referee shall allow for time wasted or lost through accident or other cause. The Referee is the sole judge of allowance of time whether lost through accident or other cause and his decision on this matter is not subject to appeal.

It was used in Yeovil v Sunderland , 4th round, 1949. Sunderland agreed to extra time if required and lost 2-1 after it.

We now know the replay WILL be televised. This should rule out Tuesday 8th March, 7:45pm and Wednesday 9th March, 7:45pm kick off times.

So either Monday 7th March (good for us, Arsenal have less recovery time) or Quarter Final Day.

Indeed we did. Fortunately this time we aren't playing the Saturday before (Sky moved us to the Thursday). Arsenal are, however.

He also played against bury and was anonymous, and hasnt done much of merit in the league except be in the right place against qpr to deflect in a ball he knew nothing about. As I followed up with, I guess we'll see over the remainder of the season but I'm doubtful.

It doesn't matter when we play. We'll still make 10 changes and play for a draw. If we're lucky we might make it to penalties and have Alex Bruce, Ryan Taylor and David Meyler squaring off against the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck. That'd be nice.

As someone who has followed the fortunes of Sunderland since the end of WW2 this brings back sore memories!

They were known at this time as "The Bank of England" team having been given massive amounts of money to buy the best players including Len Shackleton, one of my all-time favourite players. Willie Watson the Yorkshire/ England cricketer, who also played football for England, was in the team. The defeat was a huge shock in the football world, particularly to this 10 year-old, as Shackleton lost the ball leading to Yeovil's winner in extra time.

Two other football teams have been called " Bank of England " teams. Arsenal in the 1930's and Everton in the 1970's.

Bruces attitude to the result is annoying me, since we barely attacked I assume he was hoping Jak would drop one in..

is he scared we might make it to Europe and he will have to throw that again?

as other people have mentioned, we can comfortably make 10 changes, and the replay may well be on a date we are due to play anyway, and that Brentford game can be moved to a less congested part of the season.

Whilst Saturday gave Bruce the chance to see exactly what he has in the waiting room,it sounded pretty obvious it iwas a fixture he could of done without. That said, few gave us a chance of a winning a free kick let alone taking them back to ours for a replay.

I understand the reasons for not wanting a replay, so if wed have gone all at them to try win it and get stuffed 4-0 then so be it and fair enough..., but we kept it tight etc.. a fair enough tactic to nick a draw, but then you cant complain if you get one, I honestly believe he was hoping arsenal would score.
