Yeah, pretty much. I'll be on the Piccadilly line into South Ealing, I just need to get a few things done first.

H, come on now - you sound as though you've lost it!!! LOL

I dont drive it, as there is no parking, but I go via Rayners Lane on the Picadilly line. Come out of the station and its about a 15 min walk down a main road and cross the A4.

Car insurance is mental. I have always found that a car that isn't necessarily associated to a young male (i.e. not a Clio or a Corsa) generaly provides much better insurance qoutes. It's unfortunate, but true that young males have the most accidents, make the most claims and therefore increase the insurance for everyone. Insurance companies have to accomodate for the risk in insuring a "risky" driver by increasing the prices. But, it certainly seems they have increased the prices not as a means of protection, but a way of making money.

My first car was a 1.9 diesel (none of this TDI malarky) Peugeot 205 Zest. It was an amazing car. Tape deck, faux leather seat trims, manual windows and a broken radiator. For some reason, 205's go through radiators like nobody's business. I always remember once being stuck in traffic, with an insane amount of steam billowing out of the bonnet. It looked a little like a bad 1980's music video. I'm not sure on the insurance cost of this, as I was only a named driver.

But, one day my mum asked to have a conversation with me. Apparently my beloved 205 was a death trap. She gave me some spiel about leaking brakes and corroding hoses (brakes really weren't necessary for a 14 year old, French, diesel tractor). And then she broke it to me. I was being upgraded to a Peogeot 106, 1.1 Independence. As I got older, became more experienced as a driver, wiser to other road users, my insurance naturally increased in price!

One thing I have noticed is the equivalent insurance costs for females is much, much lower. Hornette, have you ever broached the subject of gender reassignment surgery to your son?

Err if there is you'll have to pay for it. There is certainly no free parking anywhere near there. I'm too mean to pay for parking!

Its seriously stupid when the premiums are many times the value of the car!

H Mrs N put her eldest on her policy as a named driver and let him use her car occasionally , I know its a bit shady , but the insurance companies are forcing people to be "creative" Has he got a grand parent alive with a driving license ? That preferably lives nearby!

I assume H that as it is a £850 banger he is only looking at 3rd Party, Fire and Theft

Has he asked his friends who they are insured with?

The whole thing is a farse. People can afford to pay the insurance so they dont bother, but then they have an accident and cost the rest of us law-abiding citizens a fortune and increase the premiums for us!!

Personally I find it quite sensible. I'm not one of these who view having a car/licence as a rite of passage for 17 year-olds, especially males, as having them drive around at that age is simply asking for trouble - it's an irrefutable fact that the male brain is nowhere near fully developed at that age, particularly in terms of self control & reacting impulsively.

In the long run, it can only be good for them to wait until they can actually afford to buy and run a car by themselves anyway!

On the subject of insurance, I reckon the Aussie system is best - where each State has it's own Government Insurance Office. Your annual State road tax includes compulsary TPFT insurance, although you can opt for an alternative company, and you can upgrade to fully comp if you wish. They still hit 17 year-olds though

Erna's cut her paw , dug around in it and fished out a small bit of glass! Hope I have got it all , she was very good and brave !! Now has it bandaged and is wearing one of my socks over it , looks quite funny! Harry gave her a comforting kiss as well!
