You may recall in our early days there was a real ding dong of a political discussion going on and because of that we lost a lot of members hence why the saints Forum at the time said they did not want that to happen again so political discussions were prohibited on the Saints forum. In my view it has held us in good stead since because of how you guys felt at the time. We are after all a football forum not a general discussion forum like Twitter.

    Anarchy to rule then?

It's a bleedin' football forum, so if discussing the political horizon is that important for people, set up a forum or find an existing one. I get a little impatient when people push boundaries because it is what they want and make out there has been some civil infringement of their rights. I have zero sympathy for someone who leave because they choose to remove their toys from the play area. How difficult is it to just respect the boundaries laid out by the people who create and 'run' this? This is not a college, a school or a place of work and no-one is being asked to lay down any of their rights and suddenly become a pawn to a ruling body; people are just asked to respect the wishes of those who set it up.

We're a football plus other sports forum in reality. I thank the mods for allowing people to put their points of view on a thread I created last year for the World Athletic Championships. Maybe this summer we'll have one for the tennis with Roland Garros and Wimbledon, the Olympics and the ongoing cricket thread.

I am as guilty as anyone of pushing a political point of view but I have no intention of discussing this referendum nonsense on here.

Thanks for this reply Beddytare. This was the information I was looking for when I made my post yesterday. Members who haven't been here since the beginning would not have been aware of these previous issues and therefore the reason for the differences in forums. :emoticon-0148-yes:

I'm the same....love planes, but not heights. I put it down to there being no edges once you are inside a plane. It's seeing the edge....and knowing you can go over that does for me with heights.

I was once on a mountain top in then Yogoslavia when I sat down on a fallen tree....then looked at my feet and realised it was hanging over the edge of the mountain. You wouldn't believe a Fran could fly, would you....but I did, getting back on the path.

In principle I agree with you. The "fault" lies within the culture of this board which has been very liberal in its interpretation of the rules. We have developed a sort of "conversation in the pub" culture and I for one really like that. If I think about the conversations I have in the pub with dyed-in-the-wool football fans we talk a lot about footie, of course. However, football is often used as a metaphor for other stuff. So politics will be discussed, but note the small p. No-one is allowed to soap-box; we know we have differences of opinion and respect these.

Whatever the rules, it is not purely a football board. We have had discussions about the merits of Italy; families; plans for a football free weekend etc. I am fine with that, and so too apparently are the mods.

    EDIT

To be clear, I have no problem with being told certain topics are off limits. I am not an anarchist. I simply enjoy the wide ranging debate on this board and hope it continues.

Watched the very brilliant Memento for probably the 6th or 7th time last night, although must be the first time in about 10 years. A film that takes concentration, but well worth the effort.

EDIT: On iPlayer for a while: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01brdx5/memento

Yeah, I can go with that.
At the extreme end of the frightened by heights scale, I've a couple of friends who grab hold of the arms of the aircraft seats and stay buckled up all flight. They don't go for a jimmy riddle, nothing. And they don't really like it if I get out of my seat to go either. I think it's a lack of control thing plus an extreme reaction to height. They can't even look out the window. One of them grizzles while taking off and landing. I sympathise, but it's a pain in the bum because I love every second and can't enjoy it.

Forgive me for saying so, but from what you have said it looks like your information is quite a few years out of date. Since then there has been a test of some length conducted by well qualified Swedish and Italian scientists. This was called the "Lugano" test and the results were then collated and reported by these scientists. The results confirmed that excess heat was produced over some considerable time.

Further to this, a one megawatt (heat only) installation consisting of four 250 Kw units has been supplying said heat to an industrial process in a customers factory in America for the past year. This also served the purpose of testing the prototype and this testing period came to an end on the 17th of February this year. This test has been monitored by an independent engineer with extensive experience and qualification in nuclear engineering. A report on the years testing is to be prepared and published by the ERV (Expert Responsible for Validation)

Perhaps I should add that an American Patent has been awarded for the process and the Industrial Units have had the necessary certification issued. The proposed domestic units have not had the certification issued because an industrial unit being bigger and for industrial use can have monitoring staff that would be totally impractical for a home unit. The strategy is to build up the case for reliability by operating the industrial units over time so that the safety and reliabilty of the technology becomes obvious.

I would also add that this development is being financed by an off shoot of Cherokee Investments of America called Industrial heat LLC at 111 East Hargett Street Raleigh NC 27601 United States. Its President and founder is Mr Thomas Darden. Industrial Heat has invested some millions of dollars in the E-cat.

Also, Woodford Investment Management at 9400 Garsington Rd, Oxford OX4 UK has also invested millions of dollars in the E-cat and carried out Two and a Half Years Due Diligence before they invested.

Incidentally, this technology has nothing to do with "Cold Fusion" (Martin Fleischmann and Stanley Pons) It is quite different, using different materials and process. Their experiments sparked off the research in the current technology.
    Hope this helps.
    Handyman.

The DVD I have has the option to watch the film in the "correct" order. Thoroughly boring and pointless!

I watched Predestination (with Ethan Hawke) last night. Pretty good, even if I did figure it out pretty early on.

Just saw the 6 tracks for this year's Eurovision. My god they're beyond awful.

Here's the track that Fable and Orbital's Paul Hartnoll put forward for a bit of a laugh! We've just stuck it out there for a giggle now.
